Huawei is a brand that has made waves in recent years, especially in Europe and emerging markets. It’s a different story in the States, though, where the world’s third-largest OEM has struggled to gain a toehold, partly due to the spying worries of the US government, and partly due to the lack of partnerships with US carriers. The situation may be changing though because Huawei may have a deal in place with one carrier, with another carrier on the hook if current rumors are to be believed.
According to a report by ETNEWS, Huawei could have a signed deal in place with AT&T already, with Verizon in discussions to get an agreement in place before CES 2018, which is just a couple of weeks away. As such, if the talks go well, Huawei could make the announcement during the Las Vegas expo. It’s thought that Huawei will also announce that it is bringing its Mate 10 line-up to the US, with likely the upcoming P11 following in the months after.
If the report is correct, it would mean that Huawei’s handsets would be available to purchase from AT&T and Verizon, exposing the brand to a wider audience than the smaller sub-section of consumers that don’t mind buying unlocked handsets directly from the manufacturer.
What do you think of the report? If you weren’t keen on buying an unlocked phone directly from Huawei, would you be willing to give the handset maker a chance by buying its smartphones from AT&T or Verizon? Let us know in the comments below.
