Next is now: Samsung officially unveils the Galaxy S6

Samsung just took the wraps off of the Galaxy S6, the big thing. The Galaxy S6 will sport an all metal frame with a glass back that is only 6.8 mm thick. The quality is the biggest and brightest feature, but that also means no removable battery and no microSD slot for expanded storage. The good news is that you can buy your S6 with as much as 128 GB of internal storage to ensure that you don’t run out of space.

The rear camera is now 16 MP and include optical image stabilization. More importantly, the software has been simplified. Even more importantly is the included f/1.9 lens can take pictures and video in extreme low light. They showed an amazing comparison on stage against the iPhone 6. You can also start the camera app in less than a second. Object Tracking Auto Focus is also new to the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge.

As I mentioned, no microSD slot is included but they are offering 32, 64, and 128 GB options with an all new flash technology that is faster and more efficient.

The display is promised to be the best  ever with 76% more pixels than the Galaxy S5.

The battery is smaller than the S5, but the hope is that the new processor is efficient enough to overcome that. You can also charge this battery faster than any other battery. It only takes 10 minutes to get 4 hours of use. Charging from 0 to 100% can be done in 1/2 the time as the iPhone 6. There is also wireless charging, which is now built-in. What’s cool is that it includes WPC and PMA technologies. This means it will work with any wireless charger on the market.

TouchWiz is slightly toned down, but you will find many apps that are only available in the Samsung Apps store. They are also offering new features like the ability to send a stock text response to a caller that you can’t answer by simply touching the heart rate monitor at the back of the device.

The thin (6.8 mm/7.0mm edge) and lightweight (138g /132g edge) Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge integrate the most advanced, cutting-edge, Samsung core technology available today. The world’s first 14nm mobile processor with 64-bit platform, new LPDDR4 memory system and UFS 2.0 flash memory provides higher performance and enhanced memory speed with lower power consumption. Moreover, the world’s first 1440P/VP9 hardware based codec enables users to enjoy high resolution streaming video while also using less power. Enhanced outdoor visibility with a brighter display (600cd/mm) lets consumers experience content without compromise – anywhere, at any time.

Easy and Protected Mobile Payment

Samsung Pay, a new, easy-to-use mobile payment service that will be compatible with more locations than any competing offering in a single application, will launch on Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge in the United States during the second half of this year. Protected by Samsung KNOX, fingerprint scanning, and advanced tokenization, Samsung Pay works with both NFC (Near Field Communication) and MST (Magnetic Secure Transmission) technology to make it device, merchant and card issuer agnostic.

Enhanced Security

The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are built on the upgraded Samsung KNOX, end-to-end secure mobile platform, offering defense-grade features for real-time protection from potential malicious attacks. Both of these new devices are also ready for immediate enterprise adoption, with market leading MDMs and KNOX enhancements enabled at launch to simplify and improve mobile device management. so 2,550 mAh battery hmmm…
and people were sad because M9 had a 2,840 mAh battery.

    • Zeus

My droid turbo has a 3900 mAh battery. I love this thing.

  • TweeXta

I can’t imagine to use a phone with less battery life than my OnePlus One.. This phone lasts 2 days with my normal everyday use (bit of gaming, surfing, whatsapp and stuff).

  • moonunitenar

And there it is. No micro-SD card slot. With that, Samsung just got rid of their only advantage in my eyes over their competitors.

  • Doug

I hope they do not ruin the next Note this way as well. Or I will be going elsewhere for my next device. Thanks to everyone out there for complaining about not having an aluminum case. Now there is one but two of the best features just went poof with it. Can’t see why the aluminum case can’t be still taken apart and if I as the consumer want to add a much larger battery why I shouldn’t be able to. Good luck with a vacation trip where you take lots and lots of pictures but now can’t get them off the phone. And you can’t reach the cloud or the cloud storage is full. You will be out of luck. Let alone storing thousands and thousands of hours of music for that long trip through the mountains, desert or anywhere else that reception isn’t great. Or even just storing movies on SD cards and swapping them out. All sadly now a distant memory.

…and there it is, Samsung’s version of Windows 8.0. The battery, sd slot and waterproof means I am squarely looking at Sony in hope now.

  • fredphoesh

Can’t wait for note 5… waterproof please!!!
