AT&T Motorola Backflip Android Phone Announced

Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha has officially unveiled Motorola's latest Android handset, the Motorola Backflip. The distinctive handset features a backward-facing QWERTY keyboard and will be exclusive to the AT&T network.

Including the MOTOBLUR software, the Motorola Backflip will be powered by Android 1.5 and will feature a 3.1-inch (320 x 480 pixels) TFT touchscreen display, 5 mega-pixel camera with LED flash and auto-focus, video capture, and 2GB of memory (upgradeable to 32GB). The handset also includes a 3.5mm audio jack, 3G connectivity, and Wi-Fi.

Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha also revealed that Motorola plans to offer an Android 2.1 update for the Motorola CLIQ and Backflip  Android smartphones - both of which currently run Android 1.5. There was no indication as to when the updates would arrive however.

Motorola Backflip features:

  • 3.1-inch (320 x 480 pixels) touchscreen display
  • Android 1.5 (upgradable to Android 2.x)
  • WCDMA 850/1900/2100, GSM 850/900/1800/1900, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps (category 7/8), EDGE Class 12, GPRS Class 12, aGPS, v2.0
  • 1400 mAh Li Ion battery
  • 5 MP camera with video recording and LED Flash
  • MotoBlur
  • aGPS ,3.55 audio jack,accelerometer
  • Bluetooth, Wi-Fi , microSD

No pricing has currently been revealed for the Motorola Backflip, but the handset is expected to begin shipping worldwide during Q1 of 2010.

AT&T announced yesterday that they will be launching 5 new Android handsets over the course of 2010. So far, we know these handsets include the Dell Mini 3, and now the Motorola Backflip.
