The most awaited smartphone of the year, the Samsung Galaxy S5, has finally made its debut at an event during the Mobile World Congress 2014.
Just like rumored, the device features the following specifications:
- 5.1-inch 1080p Super AMOLED screen
- 2.5 GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor with Ardeno 330 GPU
- 2GB of RAM
- 16 or 32 GB internal storage options
- MicroSD slot up to 128GB
- 16 MP rear camera
- 2.1 MP rear camera
- Android 4.4.2 KitKat
- Bluetooth 4.0
- USB 3.0
- LTE Cat.4
- NFC
- 2,800 mAh removable battery
- Fingerprint sensor
- Heart Rate Sensor
- Waterproof & Dust resistant
There's a new heart rate sensor sitting right on the back of the device. Place your finger over the LED flash and it will glow red monitoring your heart rate. There is also the rumored fingerprint sensor which is implemented into the home button. Swiping on the home button will activate the fingerprint sensor. The device is also waterproof with a rubber protection right around the battery cover to prevent water flowing in. The back sports a leather-like look but with an all new design. However, it still looks like its predecessor, the Galaxy S4.

2.1 MP FRONT camera?
Hopefully people make sure they put that back cover on very securely before trying to dunk it under water.
didn’t they have lots of S4 actives break or get water damage
The back sports a leather-like look, eh? What animal was that based on? :P
I can’t really see an S4 owner moving up to this. But for a SIII owner or someone else from that generation, it’s a good jump. I have a Galaxy Nexus and I will definitely consider this. But the Xperia Z2 looks respectable too.
Specs are a little disappointing, but I have the S4, so I’ll just wait to see what the S6 looks like anyway.
Guess I will keep my S3! It has 32/64 gb completely out of room on both! When will SOME ONE build a hand set with some serious memory!?! Who ever does will get my business! Why is it the ‘new’ phones are still shackled by the same memory limits my 4 year old S3 has?!
This successor is definitely not a “must have” for anyone with a S4.
