Last night we reported on one of the first smartphones slated to hit the market with a 2K screen, the Vivo Xplay 3S, which will be launching on December 12th. There is no indication that the device will be produced to meet any of the “rugged” specs, but that does not mean Vivo isn't interested in producing a device that can withstand some occasional abuse as shown in some leaked images of testing the device underwent.

The images were pulled from a series of video clips showing testing the device underwent. In one of the tests, the device is placed in a “rollover text box” to test anti-drop characteristics. In another test, the device is tested for its ability to handle stress like what may be applied when a smartphone is slipped into your jeans pocket. Other tests were used to measure the ability of the screen to withstand contact from objects striking it.

It still looks like the Vivo Xplay 3S is heading for the Chinese market only, though other Asian markets may not be out of the question. Pricing is not yet available and thus far, no testing information on how well the device renders 2K video has surfaced.
