Remember that mystery barge in San Francisco that was thought to be a data center for Google? It's going to be way cooler than a data center. KPIX 5 in San Francisco is reporting that it will include luxury showrooms and a party deck. It will be used to market Google Glass and other gadgets to invitation-only clients. Sergey Brin is behind it as well.
According to sources, the first three floors will have “dazzling showrooms” that are outfitted with chrome features and floor lighting. The upper level will include a party deck that will feature bars and lanais.
What's really amazing about this is that it's constructed with interchangeable 40-foot shipping containers. Basically, it can be assembled and disassembled over and over. This means it can be moved to other locations. It could be at the beach one day and then moved to a ski resort a few days later. Pretty cool right?
Unfortunately the project is delayed because the U.S. Coast Guard labeled it as a “floating vessel”, which means it has to be inspected to make sure it's in compliance. Apparently Google kept a lot of people in the dark about this project, but they weren't able to keep it a secret for long. I guess one would have to assume that Google is doing something similar with the barge that was found in Maine.
