Sprint and HTC just announced the latest release from HTC and Talk Android was live on scene for the action. Sprint’s Dan Hess took the stage to announce what is to be Sprint’s newest flagship phone. The awesome HTC EVO 4G LTE.
The new device from HTC marks the return of the kickstand and is prety much the U.S. version of the HTC One X. It has a great 8MP camera with the new Image Sense software, Beats Audio and Android 4.0 in conjunction with the newly announced HTC Sense 4. Unlike the HTC One X this new device sports a 1.5GHz dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor instead of the Tegra 3, has a microSD slot, supports Google Wallet via NFC and of course the addition of LTE. The Evo 4G LTE is much like the One X in many ways. It has a 4.7-inch Super LCD 2 display with a resolution of 720 x 1280, 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, a 2,000 mAh battery and measures in at a svelte 8.9mm thin. One interresting feature about the device that we have yet to see in the states is the phone’s HD Voice feature. Dual mics and decoders in combination with the Sprint network will vastly improve in-call audio quality and will reduce muffled sounds. During the presentation they even had actor Keifer Sutherland call in to demonstrate the phones audio quality. It was actually a recording rather than a live call but either way it sounded pretty damn good.
There has been much talk recently about the HTC One X’s 8MP camera in conjunction to Image Sense. The Evo 4G LTE sports a noticeable red ring around the lens said to envoke the look of a high end DSLR camera. The picture speed and Quality is said to be some of the best found on a mobile device to date and the new EVO4G LTE has the exact same camera and software and should make Sprint customers happy. The camera allows in 40% more light providing much better picture quality and there is a dedicated camera button for easy shooting. Start up and auto focus is super fast and there is a continuous burst mode that allows 4 shots per second up to 90 photos total. The camera’s flash can also adjust its brightness based on the subject you are shooting and you can take snapshots while recording video. You can even snag a still image out of video playback! Pretty rad. This is definitely going to be the camera to beat moving forward.
The HTC EVO 4G LTE has a look that is very much similar to previous EVO phones and has a texture very similar to the One X. The aluminium casing has been anodized black and has red accents that are unmistakably EVO. About the kickstand I mentioned earlier. It has been anodized red to match the theme and allows for the phone to be propped up in landscape and in portrait mode. Now you can charge your device while watching videos!
You can expect to see preorders begin on May 7th for $199.99 with a release sometime later in Q2 and be sure to check out our hands on video from the show.
