Vikeepro 4K Sports Camera review

Because the industry is over the hype produced by GoPro, companies from all over the world are popping up with their own action cameras. It's now at the point where brands big and small are trying to get your attention and convert your interest into dollars. Vikeepro, who is offering their own action camera with a whole bunch of accessories at no extra charge, is among the new brands on the scene. The Vikeepro 4K Sports camera is one of a kind because you're getting a capable action camera with 4K support and every accessory imaginable for way less than what competitors charge for the device alone.

Like you, we're interested in seeing whether or not the lesser known brands, like Vikeepro, can really make a competitive product for so cheap.

The 4K Sports Camera appears like its competitors. Vikeepro didn't set out to overhaul action camera design here; however, there's nothing wrong in playing it safe as the 4K Sports Camera's look and feel is appropriate and even admirable when you consider the price tag.

Although the 4K Sports Camera can be used without any accessories attached, Vikeepro ships this action camera already secured in a splashproof case. It's a thick plastic case that keeps your action camera from getting any water damage, but all buttons are still accessible. The case is handy because, let's be honest, you're probably always going to be using this device in potentially risky situations in which you want to protect it.

All around, Vikeepro's action camera is made of rubber so the device can handle bumps here and there. Metal or even plastic on the body's exterior isn't so smart for devices like action cameras as they can easily be nicked or cracked while being used. It's doubtful the 4K Sports Camera from Vikeepro will show any signs of wear and tear, especially if you're using the plastic case as you should.

There isn't a whole lot going on with buttons and ports, which is great for consumers because it removes any confusion from complicated setups. The 4K Sports Camera has a Power/Mode button on the front, Up and Down buttons on the right side, and a Capture/Select button on the top. The ports and slots for this action camera are all on the left side. Vikeepro put a min-HDMI port next to the micro-USB port was the microSD card slot is right underneath them.

Believe me when I say Vikeepro gives you just about everything you want in terms of accessories for an action camera. It's all stored in a neat, sturdy little carrying case that holds over twenty-five items.

GoPro, meanwhile, doesn't give you any extras like this with its action cameras. If you get a bundle from that brand, you can expect to pay even more money on top of the hundreds of dollars the action camera alone costs. Vikeepro is giving you its 4K Sports Camera and the aforementioned accessories for a fraction of what GoPro would ask. Even a 32GB microSD card is included to start you off on the right foot.

Finding a display on an action camera is sometimes difficult, but Vikeepro sure does have one present on the 4K Sports Camera. It's actually pretty terrible, though, to be completely honest with you. But I wouldn't hold that against Vikeepro because displays on action cameras aren't very important. The vast majority of people using these types of devices are not looking at a viewfinder before they take pictures or record videos, so the 2-inch (320×240) display on the 4K Sports Camera gets a pass from me.

Where Vikeepro does make up for the underwhelming display is in the settings. The full display means you're able to jump into settings and modify things to exactly fit your wants and needs. There's no shortage of choice when you get into this action camera's control room. It'll offer you video resolution, looping video, time stamp, exposure, photo resolution, burst photo, time lapse, continuous lapse, power frequency, language, date and time, sound indicator upside down, screen saver, power saver, format, and reset options. Props to Vikeepro for seeing what people would like to change and letting them do what they wish.

While Vikeepro is pushing the 4K element of its action camera's video recording capabilities, the 4K Sports Camera can be brought down to Full HD if you don't need cutting edge quality or just want to save storage space. That's nice considering the people likely going for Vikeeepro's action camera probably won't go for 4K video recording as they either don't know what it is or don't care for using it. Regardless, 4K is alive and well next to additional resolutions.

Those numbers are impressive, but we know that they can be deceiving and only real life results can be trusted; therefore, let's see what Vikeepro's 4K Sports Camera shows us.

Editor's Note: While we were able to successfully upload images from the Vikeepro 4K Sports Camera, we could not get the Full HD and 4K videos to upload to YouTube. Once successful, we will update this review with video samples.

As you can see, the 4K Sports Camera produces average images with the biggest problem being lacking color and over-sharpening. The camera samples we're sharing with you are akin to a mid-range or low-end Android phone. If you currently have a high-end phone like the Samsung Galaxy S7 or Nexus 6P, you're going to be let down by the pictures from this action camera.

Vikeepro's video quality, on the other hand, is pretty good. The 4K video recording at 25 frames per second is decent while the Full HD video recording at 60 frames per second is above average. We're just as bummed as you are that we're unable to share any videos right now. Until we get the videos uploaded and embedded, you'll have to take our word for video quality being pretty good for an affordable action camera.

The 4K Sports Camera from Vikeepro isn't meant to be groundbreaking by any stretch of the imagination. It's an action camera for people who don't need the fanciest brand and want to get the most out of their money. On Amazon, you can get this device for around $109 with free shipping. Compare that to the competition and you're probably not going to find anything close because Vikeepro is including accessories you'd usually have to buy as part of a bundle or separately elsewhere.
