LG makes some killer flagship hardware, especially if you're someone looking for a high-end phone that actually doesn't have any compromises. The LG G8, for example, still has a headphone jack and microSD card, it has a regular fingerprint scanner, and there's no weird design stuff going on, outside of a notch. It's a killer phone, and it's been one of our favorites this year.
But one quirky aspect of LG's phones is that they don't have app drawers by default anymore. All of the apps are dumped onto the home screen, just like you'd see on an iPhone, which might be jarring to someone used to Android phones and app drawers. The good news is that if you don't like that, it's easy to change, and we'll show you how.
- First off, we're going to need to get into our home screen settings. The easiest way to do that is through the home screen itself. Find any empty space on your home screens, and long press. Make sure not to do this on an app icon or widget, or it won't work.
- You'll see the home screens all shift upward, with a new set of icons below them. This includes buttons for widgets, wallpapers, settings, and more. For this guide, we're going to want to tap home screen settings.
- There's no direct setting for adding an app drawer under settings, so you're actually going to want to head into the first option in the list. Under General, tap Select Home.
- The middle option here should be home with separate apps list, and that's what we want. Tap the bubble to check that option and get your app drawer back. There's a toggle just below that setting that you can change to create an app drawer icon in your dock. If you leave this off, you'll have to swipe up to get to your apps instead of tapping the shortcut button. That's up to your personal preference.
- Head back to the home screen, and you should now see all of the apps you have installed have been moved to an app drawer instead of crowding the home screens. You can tap the app drawer icon, if you left that setting on, or swipe up to see all of the apps on your phone. Now organizing your home screens and widgets should be way easier!
There are a few things you can poke around and change here, if there's anything else you don't like about the home screen of your new LG phone. This guide should work for most modern LG devices, including the G7, G8, V40, V50, and anything else using LG's current software builds.
The LG G8 ThinQ is LG's 2019 answer to the Galaxy S10, and it manages to deliver most of the same experience at a fraction of the cost. You're getting 128GB of internal storage, a blazing fast Snapdragon 855 CPU, and a headphone jack with one of the best audio experiences we've heard on a smartphone.
Unfortunately, once you turn on the app drawer, you’re now restricted to having a SINGLE page for the home screen!! What the hell; no other modern android OEMs have that limitation.
I thought that too, but if you take an app on the home screen, and drag it right to where another screen would be, it will create a new screen, and if all apps are moved off a new screen, that screen will automatically go away
Exactly this. This is how every android phone that I’ve used for the last several years has worked. People need to just learn to google instead of complaining.
