Walmart's sub-brand Onn takes care of all the company's products that fall into the personal electronics category, and that includes streaming devices. It's always nice to have new streaming devices to choose from, and we already know that Walmart has a new one coming very soon.
One lucky YouTuber was able to get his hands on the new Onn 4K Pro off the shelves, despite the fact it seems like it shouldn't have been in stock yet. Luckily, thanks to that, we get the privilege of a full view of what this new streaming device is bringing to the table, so let's talk about it.
The Walmart Onn 4K Pro Runs On Google TV And Doubles As A Smart Speaker
Streaming devices are the easiest way to add the functionality that you want to a TV instead of needing to buy a new one. There's a lot of action in this market and the Walmart Onn streaming devices might not be the most notable, but they bring value.
YouTuber SUPERDELL-TV broke the news of the existence of this streaming device after walking into a local Walmart and buying it off the shelf for $50. This is odd since the device isn't available on Walmart's website yet, so it is entirely possible that Walmart stores are holding the stock but this was dropped ahead of time, accidentally.
Either way, we heard whispers that this was coming, and now we have a sneak peek into what we're getting any time from now, so let's get into it.
Hardware Specifications
There's an Onn 4K already, but this is the Onn 4K Pro, so it is natural to expect more hardware power waiting to be unleashed, and fortunately, that's exactly what you get. The standard Onn 4K used an unspecified processor with four Cortex-A35 cores, but the Pro model upgrades to an Amlogic S905X4 with four Cortex-A55 cores clocked at 2 GHz. The GPU remains as the Mali-G31 MP2 though, because that does the 4K job well enough.
The storage capacity takes a big jump from 8GB to 32GB, and the RAM goes from 2GB to 3GB, which might seem like a small increase, but it really isn't. There aren't many streaming devices with as much as 3GB of RAM.
Smart Speaker Functionality
You might have noticed that the Onn 4K Pro has a mesh fabric top instead of hard plastic for the Onn 4K. That's a major design change and it's there for good reason. It's because the Onn 4K Pro is no longer just a streaming device but also a smart speaker. Yep, this has Google Assistant and is basically a Google Home Mini.
Of course, considering this has speakers and microphones, you can also use it to control the user interface with your voice alone.
Connectivity Options
Looking at the back of the Onn 4K Pro, you'll get to see some of the connectivity options the device presents you with. First off, most people will be streaming over a Wi-Fi connection, so you'll be happy to know this gets an upgrade to using Wi-Fi 6. If you're more of an ethernet sort of person, there's a port for that on the back too. You'll also find an HDMI port as well as a USB-A 3.0 port on the rear end.
On the front end, there's a Find My Remote button that you can press which will make your remote start to chime wherever it might have gotten lost in your house.
Software
The Walmart Onn 4K Pro uses Google TV on Android TV 12, which is a rather familiar platform for a lot of people, especially if you're coming from a Chromecast. It also supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, HDR10, and AV1 video decoding.
