With its Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset being lauded for its performance and power efficiency, Qualcomm will be hoping for a similar experience with its new mid-range chip – the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2. Qualcomm is claiming a performance bump of more than 50% with the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2's CPU, with the GPU also offering 2x the performance over its predecessor. All of this bodes well for mid-range handsets with gaming ambitions.
On top of the performance boost, the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 also benefits from 13% increased power efficiency, while the on-device AI is integrated across the platform. The AI Super Resolution can upscale game visuals and images from 1080p to 4K resolution, which means we might see some mid-range handsets sporting displays with higher resolutions than FHD+., finally.
The Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2 also supports camera sensors up to 200MP, and its 18-bit Triple ISPs should result in the capture of higher-quality images in low-light conditions.
We should see the first Snapdragon 7+ Gen 2-powered smartphones launched sometime this month by the likes of Realme and Redmi.
