What if one of the most popular dramas sweeping the globe isn’t American or Korean, but Turkish? That’s right—the third most-watched series worldwide right now comes straight from Turkey, turning heads and winning fans from dozens of countries. So, what’s behind this buzz, and why are so many viewers hooked?

Turkish Dramas: From Local Success to Global Phenomenon

Since 2020, Turkish series on Netflix have been breaking international barriers. Back then, during pandemic lockdowns, “Miracle in Cell No. 7” moved millions to tears worldwide. Although this film later became unavailable in France, it was set to return to Netflix in early October. Following its success, more Turkish productions struck a chord with audiences. At this point, it’s not surprising to see Turkish dramas regularly reaching Netflix’s global top 5.

The Turkish Drama Everyone Is Bingewatching

The latest sensation reached Netflix’s global top 5 in just 48 hours. By the following day, its popularity kept climbing. So what is this series that’s causing such a stir? It’s a high-stakes blend of family drama and thriller—a clear candidate for your next binge-watch.

In France, the show is called “Je te connais” (“I Know You”), a title that might suggest another Harlan Coben adaptation, but this is an entirely Turkish drama, unrelated to Coben. Internationally, the series is named “Seni Tanıyorum,” which literally translates as “I know you” or “I recognize you.” In English on Netflix, however, the title is “Not a Stranger”—not quite the same meaning. According to figures reported on Flixpatrol, as of publication, the show was ranked the third most popular series globally.

Worldwide Numbers: Turkish Drama Rises Up the Charts

While it might not be number one everywhere, this series landed in the top 3 in many countries. Last Sunday, it was number one in 15 countries, and made the top 10 in 63. Initially, it reached number one exclusively in Turkey, but the next day, seven more countries followed suit, and the day after, another seven joined. That brought the total to 15 countries where the drama hit number one. Those are impressive numbers by any measure.

So what’s the story behind all this attention?

A Plot Filled with Mystery and Suspense

According to French film website Allociné:

“After putting her painting career on hold to have her baby, Funda is eager to return to work. She finally finds the nanny she needs in Nazlı. But the mysterious air around Nazlı, and her unsettling personality, will forever change Funda’s life—and that of her husband İlker.”

Netflix offers a bit more detail:

“Nazlı’s new job as a nanny, after working as a nurse, quickly spirals into chaos when she recognizes the child’s father.”

In other words, Nazlı is not just a new nanny—she’s a former nurse who already knows the father of Funda’s child, adding extra layers of tension and intrigue.

Is “Not a Stranger” Really Worth the Hype?

It’s clear the show made a remarkable impact on Netflix. Some speculated it could rise to the second spot if no major new shows dropped. Still, critical reception has been mixed. On IMDb, the thriller had a rating of 6.4/10, described as effective and suspenseful. On Allociné, there were only two reviews at the time, with a rating of 3 out of 5, but some viewers felt the series was too long.
