Inside Academia Minerva
From its opening moments, Academia Minerva drops you into a disciplined, rigid environment. Students are woken up at dawn for the flag-raising ceremony. Cell phones and civilian clothes are forbidden; the daily routine includes military strategy classes and fencing. Romantic relationships are also prohibited. One mistake can land students in serious trouble.
The main characters include Salvo (Ciro Minopoli), a boy from foster care who enters the academy searching for the truth about his best friend; Vincenzo (Biagio Venditti), who dreams of joining the army like his father; and Camilla (Margherita Buoncristiani), a privileged Milanesewhose father hopes military discipline will set her straight. The show also follows the officers and civilian instructors tasked with shaping these teens—adults wrestling with their own doubts and mistakes. Each student arrives with dreams and ambitions. But, as the official synopsis explains, the school isn’t there to grant those dreams, but to help students figure out if they truly want them. In the process, they all grow up.
Setting the Scene: Naples and Beyond
Filming took place at several historic Italian locations. The Royal Palace of Portici near Naples served as a primary backdrop, along with Villa Campolieto in Ercolano.
The first two episodes were screened at the Giffoni Film Festival in July 2026—just weeks before the official Netflix release.
