Entering the AI RP world is quite interesting, but also pretty scary at times. Fantasy roleplay is great in its own right, yet at the same time it’s quite simple to make all kinds of mistakes. That does make you wonder, what mistakes do you need to avoid when it comes to AI RP? Let’s find out.
Starting With A Vague Prompt
When we talk about AI RP, you always want to be precise. You want strong prompts that show who your characters are, where the story starts, what genre you focus on, the tone you want and so on. If you have vague prompts, then you will get generic storytelling. But the more stuff you add to the prompt, the better it will be in the end.
Overloading The AI With A Lot of Information
The last thing you want is for the AI to have way too much information. Instead, you want to have just the right amount of info. Because if it’s too many of it, you will end up with issues. Keep it professional and detailed, but also not overwhelming.
Forgetting The Character Consistency
A lack of consistency for the character does hurt the AI RP experience. You do want to add plenty of details here. That can mean better personality, skills, motivation, weakness, goals, relationships and so on. When you add these details and consistency, then the character becomes more believable. And in roleplay, it’s only going to make things better.
Expecting The AI to Remember Everything All The Time
The thing to note about AI is the fact that its conversational memory is limited. After a lot of messages, the old details might not be remembered. It’s the reality of AI RP, at least for the time being. Eventually, that might not be a problem, who knows. In the long run, the most important thing is to understand that the AI will not remember stuff. And it will be much better for the experience as a whole.
Sharing Just One Line Responses
Remember, the AI needs content to work with. If you are just sharing one liners, then that will become an issue. The most important thing is to offer creative and longer responses. Because if you are just sharing 1-2 line responses, then that’s on you.
Controlling The AI Character
It’s not a good idea to always try and control the AI character. Let it be dynamic and find its own creative ways to experiment. It might not seem like a lot at first, but in the end it has the potential to be something special and extremely interesting.
Ignoring The Internal Logic of The Story
When you play AI RP, the thing to note is that every world has its own rules. The reality is that when you ignore the internal logic of the story, things might not be great. That’s why you want to approach things wisely, figure stuff out and narrow down what is working. Make the story believable, that’s what matters, and in the end the potential can be second to none.
Changing Genres All The Time
As we said earlier, when we talk about AI RP, you want things to be consistent. The idea of changing genres all the time, it will push things way too much. The idea is to establish the primary genre early. And while you can have some slight variations, adding those often will remove consistency and it will end up being an issue in no time.
Skipping The Character Motivation
Most characters have goals and motivations. If you lack those, the conversations quickly become very repetitive, and that’s a thing that you must understand early on. Goals will naturally make the scenes more interesting and exciting. And as you do that, it will eliminate a lot of potential challenges that arise.
Expecting Perfection And Realism
The scenes and AI RP experience can be quite realistic. But it won’t always be perfect. That’s why, when it comes to AI roleplay, you always want to time your expectations. You will need to guide the AI back on track, especially if there are errors. Things happen, misunderstandings arise, and that’s why you need to course correct at times.
It’s always exciting to do the AI RP experience. And it works great, it provides excellent value and consistency. The upside is that it helps push the limits with something new and cohesive. And it never removes any downsides, instead it always keeps going, which is great. That being said, issues arise, and you have to know how to optimize AI RP where possible. It’s never an easy thing, but the outcome can be really good, if it’s all done right. Just make sure that you know what mistakes to avoid, and you will be fine!
