Hit Thriller or Streaming Misfire?
On the surface, 180 has all the hallmarks of a reliable thriller-drama. It follows Zak, a former gangster aiming for a normal life with his family. When a road rage incident ends with his son gravely injured, Zak faces unhelpful authorities and a growing sense of injustice. Consumed by anger and guilt, he embarks on a path of revenge that risks destroying everything he has left.
Sounds gripping. Unfortunately, audience scores tell a different story.
Low Ratings and Fierce Criticism
Average viewer ratings hover around 4.6 out of 10 on IMDb and 2.2 out of 5 on the French site AlloCiné. Those numbers suggest 180 misses the mark by a wide margin.
Worse still, reviews posted to sites like Rotten Tomatoes are overwhelmingly negative. Many viewers consider the film a waste of time rather than a hidden gem.
Translation? It’s a fiasco. One reviewer calls it a “navet,” French slang for a flop or clunker, slamming the lead character as an embarrassment and labeling the ending ridiculous. Other viewers criticize the film’s lack of realism, saying only the camera work is passable while the rest is infuriating. Another commenter claims the movie shouldn’t be counted as a believable story of a father seeking revenge—and even suggests the director should stop making films altogether.
Is 180 Worth Your Time?
With such harsh feedback, it’s no wonder potential viewers are steering clear of 180. Making matters worse for Netflix fans, the platform’s other recent Original, Nature Predator—a shark-themed project—has also attracted significant criticism. Sometimes, it just isn’t easy to find a crowd-pleaser on movie night.
