Every year, science fiction fans sharpen their arguments and dust off their streaming subscriptions to debate the greatest series ever made. Yet, only one can wear the crown—till next year, at least. In a stunning turn of events spotlighted by the German site Filmstarts, a new champion emerges, captivating audiences and sparking passionate debate. Step aside, starships and sonic screwdrivers: “The Mandalorian” has taken the throne, and it's a ride worth dissecting.

The Ratings Ritual: Filmstarts and the Power of the People

The end of the year brings with it an age-old ritual: rankings. Best games, best films, best anime—of course, best TV series. This time, it's the top science fiction shows stirring up conversation. Compiled by Filmstarts, a German film and TV specialist site, their leaderboard is built from user scores. That key detail? The public has spoken. No shadowy cabals of critics, just pure audience love giving “The Mandalorian” the edge and, perhaps, a touch of controversy.

  • According to Filmstarts users, “The Mandalorian” soars to the very top of the sci-fi hierarchy.
  • With an eye-watering audience score of 4.494 out of 5, it practically kisses perfection.
  • This show's pedigree doesn't hurt—it's part of the legendary Star Wars universe.

This is no minor feat. We're talking about a series that goes head-to-helmet with decades-old franchises and comes out on top. No wonder fans are abuzz with discussion—and maybe a little friendly rivalry.

The Mandalorian: Leader of the (Space) Pack

Created by Jon Favreau (of Iron Man 1 & 2 fame), “The Mandalorian” holds exclusive residency on Disney+. It doesn't just hold its own; it outpaces historical titans of the genre like “Doctor Who” and “Star Trek.” In the brutal, hyper-competitive arena of science fiction TV, that's a coup worthy of a few celebratory cantina tunes.

  • Not only does “The Mandalorian” top Filmstarts, but it also stands out among other recent series embraced by fans.
  • The public's affection is clear; the show's position at number one is their doing.

Putting a fresh spin on a galaxy adored for generations, this series has earned its place in sci-fi's hall of fame. Yet, where fans agree it's excellent, some healthy debate lingers: is it really the very best?

A Star Wars Rivalry: The Andor Upset

No showdown is ever final in the cosmos. Even with universal adoration for “The Mandalorian,” not everyone hands it the ultimate best-in-show medal. Across other ratings platforms, another Star Wars contender jostles for galactic glory—”Andor.”

  • While “The Mandalorian” remains atop Filmstarts, “Andor” snags the top spot elsewhere.
  • On Metacritic, “The Mandalorian” lands a 71/100 critic average and 7.8/10 from viewers, but “Andor” boasts higher marks at 84 (critics) and 8.3 (public) for its 2022 run.
  • Over at Rotten Tomatoes, the helmeted hero impresses with a 90% critic rating and 78% audience score. “Andor,” however, bests even those at 96% (critics) and 89% (audiences).

This duel is as fierce as a blaster fight in a cantina. The numbers show both series are beloved, and the debate over which Star Wars show reigns supreme keeps forums alive and fans passionately divided—and perhaps slightly sleep-deprived.

Six Years of Success, and the Saga Continues

Whatever the rankings say, one thing is absolutely clear: “The Mandalorian's” popularity is undeniable. Six years after its debut, the show's star has not dimmed. In fact, it's about to burn even brighter. Disney+ announced that “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” a film expanding the universe and its beloved characters, is set for theatrical release on May 22, 2026.

  • This film promises to be an unmissable event for any fan of science fiction—or adorable green sidekicks.
  • It continues a story that's already become a benchmark for sci-fi series everywhere.

So, whether you're a die-hard Mandalorian fan, a champion of “Andor,” or still not sure which side of the Force you’re on, one thing is certain: the debate is half the fun. Whichever you choose to binge next, there's no denying we're living in a golden age for fans of galaxies far, far away.

Mark your calendars for May 22, 2026, sci-fi enthusiasts—the adventure is just getting started!

  1. It’s better than “Dr. Who” and “Star Trek”? Well, considering how low those two have fallen, the bar is pretty low, isn’t it?

  2. I’m almost inclined to believe the German score was based on the first season of the Mandalorian alone. That truly was ‘event television’. The second season was decent and nicely wrapped up the Grogu storyline, but season three completely fell off a cliff, which is why many fans are ‘meh’ about the upcoming movie.
    Absurd
Andor, on the other hand, went from strength to strength across its three seasons.
