If you need a more barebones cellular experience, then prepaid carriers are the best place to get that. Sure, you have to put your money down ahead of the fact, but once you do, you get your service for the month or year, and at a lower cost than most of the postpaid options in the market.

US Mobile is one option you can look at when considering prepaid carriers, and if you have been on the fence regarding the carrier, its latest deal serves as the perfect time to give them a shot. If you prepay for a year of service on the carrier's Dark Star network, you'll get another line for an entire year, without paying a dime.

The first thing that you need to know about US Mobile, if you're not too conversant with its services, is that it is an MVNO with a twist. Instead of offering services on the infrastructure of only one bigger network, you can choose between the three major US carriers. The carrier presents these as Dark Star (AT&T), Warp (Verizon), and Light Speed (T-Mobile). This explains why it calls itself a Super Carrier.

Today's deal applies only to Dark Star, but that shouldn't be an issue for most people. The deal will give you the chance to get another phone line for free for an entire year. However, you shouldn't be surprised that there are some criteria that you'll need to fulfill to take advantage of this. Thankfully, it is nothing too complicated.

  • You must make an annual payment for either the Unlimited Premium or Unlimited Starter plans.
  • Both the regular line and the free line have to be ported in from another network.
  • You must redeem the offer before June 7th.

That's straightforward. Keep in mind that if you go for the Unlimited Premium plan, which costs $348 for an annual payment, the free line will run on the carrier's Unlimited Starter plan. On the other hand, Unlimited Starter, which costs $228 for a year, will get you a free line on Unlimited Flex for a year (worth $218).

If this deal is whispering in your ear like the Green Goblin mask, before you give in to it, make sure that you know exactly what you will get with each plan. Unlimited Premium costs about 50% more than Unlimited Starter, so if you're going for the former, you're going to want to make sure it has the value you're looking for. Plus, might as well throw Unlimited Flex in there, since it'll come as a free line for some.

Remember that US Mobile operates on multiple networks? With network transfers, you can switch to other networks, especially when your current network with the MVNO isn't providing the experience you want.
