Networks will say they have unlimited data, but then limit it when you use too much. Good thing that doesn’t apply to Mint anymore.

PC games commonly surpass 100GB these days. Streaming 4K movies and shows can also knock out 10GB or more pretty quickly. With multiple devices in the home installing software updates every month, that's another avenue through which a few gigabytes can disappear. The average American household uses a lot of data; that's my point.

That's exactly why we love unlimited plans. They give you a chance to use as much data as you need without needing to worry about limits. The only problem is that the average unlimited plan has its speed throttled if you use too much data. That's not quite unlimited. Well, now, with Mint Mobile, the data cap is gone, and it really is unlimited.

Mint Mobile's Unlimited Plan Removes Any Data Limits for True Unlimited Internet

We know how the story goes with the average unlimited plan. They claim to be unlimited, which makes them worth the price in households that consume a whole lot of data. However, by the time you pass a certain data quota, these plans will slow down your internet to a point that is almost unusable. It's in the fine print, and you might see it referred to as a fair-use policy. It sort of defeats the expected definition of “unlimited.”

Well, if you're a Mint Mobile user, there's some good news for you. If you use any of the carrier's unlimited plans, “unlimited” truly means unlimited now. The carrier has gotten rid of the 40GB data caps on its Unlimited plan, whether you pay for 3, 6, or 12 months of service. For a prepaid carrier that was sort of already on the cheaper side, you're getting an even sweeter deal, with access to T-Mobile's 5G network.

Mint Mobile seems to be yet to make an official statement regarding this, but over on Reddit, one Mint subscriber reported receiving a notification that confirms that they'll no longer have to deal with a data cap on their unlimited internet. Plus, Rizwan Kassim, one of the co-founders of Mint, commented and basically confirmed the news. That's pretty good news for all Mint Mobile customers.

There's A Little Catch to It

For the most part, the news is as simple as it seems. You can use 500GB, 1TB, or even 5TB of data in a month without finding your internet speeds throttled back to dial-up speeds. That's good.

However, in some cases, you will still be throttled. However, this will only happen in instances when the network is congested. Your line won't be prioritized in order to equitably balance bandwidth, especially for those who might actually have data caps for the month. That shouldn't happen much, though.

Right Now, Mint Mobile's 12-Month Unlimited Plan Is Being Discounted

To make things a little sweeter, you can hop onto this plan right away for cheaper than usual. If you prepay for Mint's 12-month Unlimited plan, which would normally cost you $360 upfront, you'll get it at just $300. This a limited-time offer though, but it is nice to know that you have that option.
