Beyond the processor, it’s hard to say the other improvements are worth a brand-new device.

The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus teaser came as a huge shock to me because I heard absolutely nothing regarding its existence, whether in the form of rumors or leaks, prior to Nothing coming out to announce earlier this month that the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus is coming on July 31st.

Considering the Nothing Phone (2a) has been alive just over one quarter of a year, it was surprising to hear of the impending arrival of a Plus model. I had to go into speculation mode to try and figure out what additional features this phone would be bringing to the table, but now, with this leak, we've gotten the specs confirmed.

Nothing Has Confirmed The Brand-New MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro Will Be The CPU Of Choice

Even though we now have a leak giving us the full rundown on the Nothing Phone (2a) Plus' spec sheet, there is one upgrade coming to the device that has been confirmed by Nothing themselves, and that's that the phone will be coming with a new and improved MediaTek chip; emphasis on the “new”.

The Nothing Phone (2a) Plus will be the very first smartphone to run the MediaTek Dimensity 7350 Pro, which is stated to bring a 10% boost in CPU performance and a 30% in GPU performance. Overall, it means Nothing gets to bring additional power to its budget line.

Nothing made it official that the device will be able to be configured with 12GB of RAM, but with the leak, we know that an 8GB variant will also be available. This points to the exact same storage configurations being your options for the Plus.

Besides That, You Get Slightly Faster Charging And A Better Selfie Shooter

Okay, so beyond the RAM and the CPU in the new device, Nothing has made nothing (pun intended) else official. However, thanks to a big leak from Smartprix, we now have a very good look at the rest of the spec sheet for the device. Here's a big downer for you: most of the spec sheet remains the same as on the Nothing Phone (2a). Sure, the chipset changes, but apart from that, only the selfie camera and charging are upgraded.

The battery remains as a 5,000 mAh cell but the charging gets a slight bump up from 45W to 50W. One can't complain too much about that but don't expect a 5W difference to cut charging times in half. The selfie camera also gets boosted from the 32MP sensor on the Phone (2a) to a 50MP shooter.

So, that's it. A new chipset, slightly faster charging, and a new selfie camera. In my very humble opinion, I'm going to say that while these upgrades are hardly insignificant, I wonder if they really necessitated slapping “Plus” onto the original Phone (2a). I generally think the phone didn't need to be made if it was only going to come with such minimal upgrades.

There's no word on the price though. I might eat my words if the device manages to come in only $50 more expensive than the Phone (2a)'s $349 launch price.
