Over the last week or two, we've been swarmed by leaks for Motorola's upcoming premium flagship, the Motorola Razr 50 Ultra (AKA Razr+ (2024)). There was nothing forthcoming about the regular Motorola Razr 50 though, at least up until now.

Out of nowhere, we've gotten a pretty extensive look at the spec sheet for the device as well as several high-quality renders of the device, leaving very little to the imagination regarding how it's going to look.

A New Cover Display Means That The Motorola Razr 50 Is Going To Look Very Different

The Motorola Razr 50 is going to be the lower-end model in Motorola's fifth generation of foldable devices. Last year's design, considering what other clamshell foldables have been doing, was relatively dated, leaving a lot of people hoping for a redesign this year. Fortunately, that wish has been granted, thanks to Evan Blass.

If you're using the inner screen, there's not much difference. It's the same tall screen with a selfie camera cutout. However, when you turn the phone around, you'll find that it looks notably different. The cover display has gotten several times larger, leaving the tiny rectangular profile it had with the Razr 40, and going for a rounded square shape, similar to the Razr 40 Ultra. Reportedly, it goes from last year's 1.5-inch diagonal to 3.63 inches. It integrates the flash and dual cameras with cutouts.

The rest of the back panel is textured and will be available in orange, champagne gold, and dark grey. The cover display does not take up the whole top half, with a colored bezel taking up the rest of the area. The design is a massive leap from last year's model and a much-needed one.

The Razr 50 Spec Sheet Has A Pretty Interesting Processor Choice

Thanks to 91Mobiles, we also have a purported spec sheet to go along with the images of the phone that we've seen. If these leaked specifications are true, then the phone has a lot of interesting changes that have been made.

For instance, you get a similar 6.9-inch FHD+ pOLED display, but the refresh rate gets knocked down to 120Hz from 144Hz. Apparently, in order to increase the cover display to 3.63 inches, corners had to be cut elsewhere. The rear camera setup is 50MP and 13MP (likely an ultrawide), with little else known about it. For comparison, the primary camera in the Razr 40 was 64MP (but megapixels aren't everything admittedly). The selfie camera seems to be the same 32MP unit.

You'll get Android 14 running on a MediaTek Dimensity 7300X. This is the first we've heard of this chip and there's basically no info on it as of now. It's a big switch from the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 and I can't cast any judgment on it until there's more about its power. Supposedly, there will be a single 8GB/256GB configuration. The battery will stay at 4,200 mAh.

The price will be the best determinant of how much these specs are worth, but beyond the cover display (and potentially the processor), there aren't any boosts, at least on paper.
