‘Who is Merlin' takes place in Holistone, serving as a side quest that becomes accessible alongside Golden Secret after the completion of the Ryeham Tales Chapter. Rumors have reached you and your companions that someone urgently seeks you. Head there to look for a villager.
Step-by-Step Who is Merlin? Guide
STEP 1: Look for the Villager
Keep in mind that side quests in AFK Journey can be taken anytime and have no time limit. To start the side quest ‘Who is Merlin?', head to Holistone and look for the Ryeham Villager. The villager situated southwest (286;161) of the statue, and he seems relieved to find you. Interact with him to accept the side quest.
STEP 2: Find Chippy
The Ryeham villager said he had spotted our ‘hamster' familiar arguing with a girl. Head northeast of Holistone (292;171) to find out what happened.
STEP 3: Go to the Magic Circle
It was Cassadee interrogating poor Chippy about you. She claimed that you're far too different from the manuscripts she read. Although the magic you use is the same, your taste in food, mannerisms, and looks do not match the description of ‘Merlin.' Thankfully, Valen has changed the topic to magic, so Cassadee is asking for your help. Head to the Magic Circle (332;153).
STEP 4: Activate the Circle
Cassadee made a Magic Circle (322;155), but for some reason, it summons elementals once she activates it. Try to activate the Magic Circle yourself by ‘tap and hold' on the icon cue. Perhaps you will see the problem.
STEP 5: Examine the Circle
When you activated the Magic Circle, it lit up and worked fine. Cassadee wondered where she went wrong. Examine the Magic Circle to take an in-depth look.
STEP 6: Talk to Cassadee
While examining the Magic Circle, you found no problem with the design or creation, but you found Cassadee's notes. Talk to Cassadee for an explanation and find the root of the problem.
STEP 7: Deal with Elementals
Cassadee demonstrated how she activates the Magic Circle. As it turns out, she used too many Blue Manastones, and eventually, the circle went out of control! Wild streams of elementals escaped! Head east to deal with Elementals (344;153)
STEP 8: Return to the Circle
With the elementals no longer a threat, return to the Magic Circle (331;154) and talk to Cassadee. Her magic control is still far from perfect, which explains why the circle goes out of control while it works for you. Cassadee decreased the number of Blue Manastones to two, which requires less magic control.
STEP 9: Find Chippy
With the cause of the problem revealed, Cassadee is determined to continue her thesis independently. She also got an apology gift for Chippy. Head to Holistone (292;171) and find him.
STEP 10: Find Cassadee
Chippy is happy with his gift and has forgiven Cassadee. Speaking of which, you feel something is amiss. Find Cassadee by the waterfall in Holistone (303;148) and talk to her. After the dialogue, the ‘Who is Merlin' side quest concludes.
How to Unlock Who is Merlin?
‘Who is Merlin?' side quest becomes available after you have completed the final story quest for Ryeham Tales – Merlin's Ward. ‘Who is Merlin?' will appear in your Quest List along with the Golden Secret side quest.
