Motorola was one of the most reputable brands in phones once upon a time, but when smartphones took over the scene, they only maintained their dominance for a relatively short time. However, in recent years, they've stepped back into the light with great budget and flagship options.

Speaking of flagships, Motorola's 2024 entry has been leaked and will take over Moto's flagship crown from the Edge 40 Pro (which was an underrated but amazing device). We've gotten a good look at the Edge 50 Pro, which will go by different names depending on the region you buy it in, and it's looking rather different.

Motorola Makes Some Slight Design And Hardware Changes With The Edge 50 Pro

The Motorola Edge 50 Pro is the Lenovo-owned company's upcoming flagship smartphone. It will be launched as the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) in the United States and the Motorola X50 Ultra in China. As expected, it is coming with top of the line specifications, but it is also coming with a new design over the previous phone.

The first thing you'll notice about the Motorola Edge 50 Pro in the first renders (thanks, Android Headlines!) is that the design gets refreshed a little. The phone maintains the same layout of the cameras and flash, but instead of a sudden camera bump, the back panel of the devices curves gently to form the bump. This is a sleeker-looking design.

We also know about some specs and how they're going to change up compared to last year's model. For one, we look set to be getting a 6.7-inch 165Hz AMOLED display, 125W wired charging, 12GB of RAM, and a triple camera setup, similar to its predecessor. However, the cameras will be getting slight upgrades, as the main sensor is moving to a f/1.4 aperture and it might get a 6x optical lens.

Wireless charging gets a boost to 50W, which makes it a lot less of a divide between wired and wireless as last year's, which had only 15W wireless. Of course, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will power the phone. Unfortunately, these same leaks point to a substantial decrease in battery size to 4,500 mAh, which if true, would be a disappointing move from the company.

We're Expecting Some AI-Centric Marketing With This Flagship

Motorola's official channels tested the Motorola X50 Ultra on Weibo last week, with very clear branding as an “AI Phone”. The X50 Ultra is the same phone we're talking about, so we can expect the same AI features (which Motorola gave no hint of whatsoever) to find their way to the Motorola Edge Plus (2024) that launches in the United States.

This may end up being tight integration with Google's Gemini AI instead of a homegrown implementation from Motorola. It'd be a lot easier to simply adopt Google's tech that's set to go.

When Is The Motorola Edge 50 Pro Expected To Launch?

This new Motorola flagship is likely not to have a single global launch. Instead, it is expected that it will launch first in China (probably, since the only place an official teaser has been released is China), followed by a global or North American launch.

The renders leaked for the Edge 50 Pro point to April 3rd, so if that's accurate, we'll know everything there is to know about these phones in less than a month.
