With a mix of F1, glimpses at the phone, and the word “AI”, Motorola has officially teased their upcoming flagship: the X50 Ultra.

Motorola used to be a very common name in the smartphone space, but they lost a good amount of their market share over time. However, over the years, they've made some very notable devices, with the clamshell foldable, the Motorola Razr, being the most popular at the moment.

However, this doesn't mean that the company isn't giving up on releasing exciting smartphones that stay in line with the trends. The company has just teased a new flagship smartphone, the Moto X50 Ultra, and we know just a little bit about what it will bring.

Motorola Hints At The AI-Focused Moto X50 Ultra In China

Motorola doesn't get fanfare in the North American market as much as it used to, though the Motorola Razr managed to get a lot of attention in the foldable segment (especially since it resurrected an old friend of many). However, the company is making bold efforts to get back to the top of the pyramid.

An official Weibo post provided us with a teaser video hinting at the Moto X50 Ultra, without much else besides a lot of F1 theming and branding as an “AI Phone”. The video is in Chinese and there's yet to be a sign of the device in any other market, so it might end up being a China-only release, at least for now.

From the video, all we can see is that the phone will have a leather-style back panel and a small Motorola logo, but that's it. There isn't a hint about the AI features either. However, based on one of their last flagships, the Motorola Edge 40 Pro, I'm expecting pretty high-end specs from the phone, because their flagships might not cross your radar, but they are certainly premium.

What's Up With All The Formula 1 Branding?

It's impossible to watch the video that Motorola posted on Weibo and not see all the Formula 1 imagery. It takes up more of the video than the actual device being teased does. It ends with the Moto branding right beside the F1 logo, so it is reasonable to wonder what's going on.

It's hard for me to give you a definite answer, but Lenovo, Motorola's parent company, is an official sponsor of Formula 1, so they might have chosen to trickle that down to Motorola for additional publicity for the brand.

In addition, if you're an F1 lover, you'll know that the motorsport is going to China for the F1 China Grand Prix on April 21st. If I can wager a guess, I wouldn't be surprised if Motorola launches the phone before or after the race happens.

What Else Has Motorola Been Cooking Up?

Motorola has been hard at work in the mobile market, though their entries might end up drowned out by the noise from their bigger competitors. However, most recently, we covered the Moto G84, a budget smartphone that impressively ticks a lot of boxes.

They're also working hard on the software side of things to make sure a good amount of their phones stay up to date, and quite a few of them will be getting Android 14.
