OnePlus Open

Now that Samsung's latest foldables are up for pre-order it's time to look forward to the OnePlus Open (formerly known as the V Fold) making its debut in the segment. Originally thought to be scheduled for launch on August 26, we may have to wait a little while longer for the first OnePlus foldable to be unveiled due to issues with its display. That may be a good thing though.

Updated September 25: OnePlus has announced that it will unveil its first foldable called the Open sometime ‘soon, which isn't really specific seeing as we are nearing the start of Q3 2023. If you were hoping for an actual launch data, though, it's being reported by tipster Max Jambor on X (formerly Twitter) that the OnePlus Open will launch on October 19th, two weeks after Google's Pixel 8 series makes its debut.

Jambor goes on to say that the OnePlus Open will launch globally – going on sale soon after being announced. While we are relatively sure that the OnePlus Open will go on sale in the US, there is some doubt whether it will be released in the UK and parts of Europe due to Oppo's continuing spat with Nokia which has seen sales of new handsets banned.

We'll keep an eye on this and update when further details come to light. In the meantime, are you looking forward to the OnePlus Open? Let us know in the comments below.

According to Max Jambor on ‘X‘, the reason for the delayed launch is due to the displays sourced from BOE being deemed unacceptable with OnePlus instead deciding to get panels from Samsung.

There's no telling just how much of a delay the switching of display suppliers will cause but it could result in the OnePlus Open being announced during IFA 2023 or perhaps even later.

Unlike the Pixel Fold which makes do with last year's Tensor G2 chipset which itself is based on an old Exynos design, the OnePlus Open is believed to be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor. We expect the presence of a 7.8-inch internal display with a 6.3-inch cover display, and a rear camera setup consisting of a 48MP main sensor, a 48MP ultrawide lens, and a 64MP periscope lens. It's also reported that the OnePlus Open will benefit from a 4,800mAh battery with 67W fast charging.

Are you looking forward to the OnePlus Open?
