Redmi Note 12 Pro

In an event held in China today, Redmi unveiled its new Note 12 series which consists of the Note 12 Pro, the Note 12 Pro Plus, and the top-of-the-line Note 12 Discovery Edition. The series represents a good mix of hardware and pricing with the Note 12 Discovery Edition catching our eye with its insane 210W fast charging and 200MP primary camera.

All three models are powered by MediaTek's new Dimensity 1080 chipset which supports the all-important Sub-6GHz 5G networking. They also share the same flat 6.67-inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 240Hz touch sampling, and FHD+ resolution. A 16MP selfie camera, 3.5mm audio jack, NFC, IR blaster, and WiFi 6 support are also present on the three Note 12 variants. The phones also run MIUI 13 (based on Android 12) out of the box.

The highest-specced model packs in the insanely quick 210W fast charging which recharges the 4,300mAh battery in just 9 minutes. Its 200MP HPX main camera sports OIS and can shoot 200MP imagery as well as 50MP and 12.5MP pixel-binned shots. The rear camera setup also includes an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro camera. It only comes in a single colorway – Black.

Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus

The Note 12 Pro Plus is similar to the Discovery Edition in that it also boasts the same 200MP main camera. It makes do with just 120W fast charging but does have a larger 5,000mAh battery. Apart from that, it's virtually identical to the DE model.

The base model of the Note 12 Pro series has a more modest primary camera in the form of the popular 50MP IMX766 sensor which also features OIS. Like the Pro Plus, it has a 5,000mAh battery although the charging speed is down to ‘just' 67W which will still fully charge the battery in 46 minutes, which is still pretty darn quick when compared to a Pixel 7 Pro.

Pricing and Availability

Whilst the launch event focused on Xiaomi's home market, the brand did say that we should ‘stay-tuned' for news on if or when the Redmi Note 12 Pro series will launch globally. As you can see from the Chinese prices for the Redmi Note 12 Pro series, there's a whole lot of value here, and hopefully, we'll see at least the Discovery Edition make its way to western markets in the months ahead.
