Well, you can't say that Microsoft didn't give you enough lead time to switch to an alternative virtual assistant such as Google Assistant, Alexa, or Siri (if you are an iPhone user) on your smartphone seeing as it gave notice of the impending demise of Cortana functionality on iOS and Android devices back in July of 2020. Today's the day where Cortana will cease to be supported by Microsoft on the two mobile platforms, with some of its functionality being switched to the Microsoft To Do app.
Today (March 31st, 2021) is the date that Microsoft is ceasing support for the Cortana app on both Android and iOS in favor of integrating it within the Office 365 suite of productivity apps. This doesn't affect Cortana users on Windows PCs or laptops, of course. Android and iOS users will find that Cortana reminders, lists, and tasks are automatically synchronized to the Microsoft To Do app which is available to download on both the Play Store and App Store.
“As we announced in July, we will soon be ending support for the Cortana app on Android and iOS, as Cortana continues its evolution as a productivity assistant. After March 31, 2021, the Cortana mobile app on your phone will no longer be supported.”
We've included the link to the Microsoft To Do app below, but in the meantime, which virtual assistant are you swapping over to on your smartphone now that the Cortana app is being terminated?
