Redmi Note 9 Pro Max

Xiaomi's Redmi Note line of budget-friendly phones has just gotten a pretty serious upgrade, delivering great hardware at an affordable price. As usual, these phones are geared at the price-conscious Indian market, but both of them look like some pretty great options for anyone in the market for upgrades.

Redmi Note 9 Pro Max announced

Both of these are phones are more or less identical. Xiaomi isn't trying to mix things up with one drastically different model, although the (not iPhone) Pro Max version does pick up a little more memory and storage, and it can charge faster.

You're getting a 6.67-inch 1080p display on both phones with a hole-punch for the front-facing camera, and it's all powered by a Snapdragon 720G CPU and up to 6GB of RAM for the Redmi Note 9 Pro and up to 8GB of RAM for the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.

There's a quad-camera configuration of sensors and lenses on the back of the phone, with the Note 9 Pro using a 48MP main camera and the Note 9 Pro Max using a slightly higher 64MP sensor. The front camera of the Max also doubles its megapixel count to 32 and supports pixel binning, which the regular model doesn't do.

The rest of the cameras on the rear are identical between models and include an 8MP ultrawide lens, a 5MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor.

Both phones use a 5020mAh battery, although the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max charges faster at 33W. They're both running Android 10 with MIUI 11, have dual-sim slots and no 5G, and charge via USB-C and have headphone jacks. The fingerprint reader is located on the side of the device.

You can pick up the base 4GB/64GB Redmi Note 9 Pro for ₹12,999 (around $175) or the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max in 6GB/64GB for ₹14,999 (around $200) when they go on sale later this month in India on mi.com, Amazon, and in Xiaomi's stores.
