Robert Downey Jr. is the latest brand ambassador to use someone else's smartphone, accidentally promotes OnePlus with a Huawei 3

Earlier this year Robert Downey Jr. was pegged by OnePlus to be their brand ambassador in Asia. That's a pretty common thing, where a tech brand will hire someone rich and famous to exclusively use their products to help build out their brand image.

But what also seems to be a common thing is when these brand ambassadors accidentally tweet from other brands of smartphones. Not even Iron Man is immune to that.

Supposedly, RDJ tweeted a promotional OnePlus 7 Pro message, except it came from a Huawei P30 Pro. We wouldn't blame him, it's a great phone; but as always, the internet caught that small detail, and obviously that doesn't look great for OnePlus.

So what's the damage control plan? Robert Downey Jr. says that he didn't send the tweet himself, but it was actually his assistant that managed it. And to keep “mistakes from happening again,” he's upgrading that assistant to a OnePlus 7 Pro. Smooth, I guess?

It's a small thing, but this is pretty typical for social media. You'll never really know what phone these actors are using for their personal phones, and they certainly do have assistants and social media teams trying to coordinate things. But at the end of the day, this one's probably going to leave OnePlus with a headache and Huawei with a smirk.
