So depending on how often you're trying to identify a song, the free version may be just fine for you. Anyway, head on over to the Android Market, try it out and let us know what you think in the comments.

Update: Well I wanted to test to see just how “fast” SoundHound is compared to one of the most popular “song id” type apps out there, Shazam. My song of choice for this test was Wolfmother – Joker & The Thief. I simply pressed play on WMP and each apps “listen” button at the same time and as soon as it got a result, I hit pause on WMP, effectively telling me how long it took each app to figure out what song it was. Looks like SoundHound has the walk to back up it's talk:

  1. SoundHound 6 seconds
  2. Shazam: 26 seconds

Obviously, this is only one song, so feel free to conduct similar tests and let us know your results!
