Right now most manufacturers are working on getting a 5G prepared for release in 2019, with a ton of speculative eyes on Samsung. LG has also been rumored to launch something with Sprint, though, with many of us thinking that the LG G8 might be the company's first 5G phone. Turns out, though, that the G8 may not make the cut.
The latest rumors do tell us that the G8 will have a waterdrop notch instead of the bigger notch of the V40 and G7, and it will also pick up a 3D depth sensing camera as two of the improvements over the 2018 model. But while that Sprint 5G phone will still probably happen, it won't be on the G8. They're sticking with 4G LTE there.
The G8 will also likely be launching in March, which is a good sign for an MWC 2019 unveiling.
Aside from these leaks we don't know much else about the G8. It's a fairly safe bet that it'll use the Snapdragon 855 like everything else, probably paired with 6 or 8GB of RAM and gobs of internal storage. LG is doubled down on their AI ThinQ branding, so that's sure to still be on the G8, and honestly I'd expect the design to stay mostly unchanged except for that notch.

I don’t care for 5G. But keep the jack and add another speaker, LG!
