Google Play Games gets a design update for several screens 2

Earlier this year at Google I/O 2018 the company revealed a new push to introduce their next phase of Material Design concepts. Since that time, several apps have received updates to implement this new interface, including Android Messages, Google Contacts, Google Phone, Google Fit, Google News, Google One, Google Pay, Google Home and Google Maps. Another one joins the list as summer comes to a close and we are ever closer to the launch of new Pixel devices. Google Play Games is ready to rollout the new Material Design theme concepts to the leaderboard, multiplayer and user achievements portions of the app.

The Google Play Games user interface was last updated in November 2017 when the then-existing Material Design standard was implemented for the main portion of the app. However, other portions of the app still followed some older design standards. The new Material Design changes will make the app consistent throughout with an all-white/green-accent color scheme.

Based on the work of Kieron Quinn with Mighty Quinn Apps, all of the code and supporting material for this update already exist within Google Play Games as he was able to successfully enable the new interface in a game he developed. However, Google has not yet thrown the switch to make this the default and generally available for all developers although it appears that could occur at any time.
