AT&T announced its own unlimited data plan to compete with new offerings from Verizon and Sprint as well as an improved offering from T-Mobile; however, it wasn't very good. But now, AT&T is upgrading its unlimited plan, and it's at least brought it up to par alongside unlimited offerings from other carriers.
Pricing is a little confusing, but overall cost isn't too bad. A single line is going to cost you $90 per month. Two lines will cost you $145 per month, and then after that, each additional line is $20 per month, which includes things like tablets, mobile hotspots and even Wi-Fi hotspots for your car.
With this unlimited plan, you get 10GB of high-speed tethering. Once you use that up, you're slowed to 128KBp/s, which is fairly slow, but not too bad. Additionally, AT&T will only slow your mobile data down after you've exhausted 22GB of data, and even then, they'll only slow you if there's too much congestion in your area.
They're offering an Unlimited Choice plan, too. It's priced lower, but you get lower speeds, too. Streaming video is throttled to 480p and then actual data connections max out at 3MBp/s. A single line will cost you $60, but four lines will only cost you $155.
With these plans, you'll be able to use talk, text and data when traveling in Canada and Mexico. Additionally, calls to Canada and Mexico are free as well.
