Although LG's entry into the stylus-equipped smartphone market may not set things on fire like some competitor's devices, the mid-range entry is still rated as a solid contender for buyers who want the added features of a stylus. LG is inviting folks to sign up for news and updates about the LG Stylo 3 and shared the device with some sources to get their impressions.

The LG Stylo 3 will come equipped with a MediaTek processor, 3GB of RAM, a 5.7-inch 1080p HD screen, and a 13MP camera. None of this hardware will blow away consumers looking for flagship level devices, but the price may be a little more reasonable as well. Reports indicate the combination of hardware running Android Nougat 7.0 and LG's UX 5.0 produce a mostly smooth user experience, maybe just a tick below the LG V20.

With a device like the LG Stylo 3, one key factor is how well the stylus works, both physically and in terms of the user interface. The stylus on the device is reported to be quite thin, almost to the point of feeling “flimsy.” On the plus side though, this meant LG was able to integrate it into the body to where it is barely noticeable when docked. Users also indicate LG did a good job of simulating the feel of writing on paper with a pen. In terms of apps and the interface, the modifications to LG's UI to accommodate the stylus appear to be very similar in function to what was available on a device like the Galaxy Note 7.

We are still waiting for word from LG on availability and pricing. Considering the lack of other options for stylus-equipped devices, if the LG Stylo 3 lives up to these early reviews, it could be a nice option for this niche market.
