A new rumor says that Samsung could launch its own wireless in-ear headphones alongside the Galaxy S8.
Apple launched the iPhone 7 earlier this year. It garnered quite a bit of attention, as the company nixed its 3.5mm audio jack, instead opting to push into wireless audio.
Now, some of the same rumors are going around with the Galaxy S8. It's been reported that Samsung will ditch the 3.5mm audio jack, pushing more towards wireless audio; however, not all hope is lost yet. It's also been reported that Samsung is testing units without the 3.5.mm audio jack and units without it. So, which one we'll see at launch is, at this point, a toss-up.
Either way, Samsung still plans to launch those wireless in-ear headphones in order to better compete with Apple's AirPods. We don't know if they'll be bundled with the Galaxy S8 just yet.
Samsung has launched wireless earphones before — the Gear IconX. But, they aren't exactly ready to fully replace traditional wired earphones, as they can be quite a hassle.
Things could be a bit different with the launch this year, with reports claiming Samsung will skip MWC 2017 and launch the phone in April.
