Ultimate Ears has announced a unique new addition to their UE BOOM 2 and UE MEGABOOM Bluetooth speakers. The latest firmware update for these devices adds a new push-to-talk feature that can trigger Google Now, or Siri, directly from the speakers. The concept is to make it so that users can “say it to play it” in order to quickly access and launch their favorite tunes.
Ultimate Ears points out that the two speakers are built to be ultra rugged including features like an IPX7 waterproof rating and the ability to deliver sound in 360 degrees. Ultimate Ears general manager Charlotte Johs says, “no matter how wet, muddy or wild the situation” the new Google Now voice integration means users do not need to access their smartphones to launch new content.
The UE BOOM 2 retails for $179 and the UE MEGABOOM retails for $249. The new firmware update can be installed via companion apps for mobile devices.
