Yesterday an entry in the Geekbench database surfaced that many believe is the Huawei P9 smartphone. The Huawei P9 is expected to launch around March of this year as the successor to the Huawei P8. Today a sketch of a device surfaced that is believed to be of the Huawei P9, although it seems to show a different design direction for the manufacturer with the P series of devices.

The first, most obvious item that jumps out from the sketch is the presence of a physical home button. One possible reason for bringing a physical button to the device is to be able to include a fingerprint sensor in the unit. Manufacturers continue to expand the use of fingerprint scanners in devices and figuring out how to include them is always a challenge with physical buttons providing a convenient way to do so.

Sources have also noted that the overall design of the device has a more rounded look that previous devices. Some have even gone so far as to compare it more with a Meizu device than a Huawei.

  1. I’m 99% certain that Huawei isn’t reading this but if some freak chance they are and are willing to take into consideration. Please no physical home button. There are already enough phones with them. Apple and all their phones and Samsung with every single one of their phones. I love on screen buttons. I was a little iffy with the Galaxy Nexus. It is now a prerequisite for a purchase of a new device.
