Samsung's Galaxy S 4 Active, on paper, is an awesome concept; it's a high-end device that's waterproof and dust proof, and it even has a removable battery. In real world usage, though, the S 4 Active has struggled to live up to its marketing hype. Many users of the device have had problems with water damage in their phones, which should seem really, really weird for a waterproof device. The phone has IP67 certification, so it should be able to stay submersed in up to 3 feet of water for 30 minutes, but apparently real-world units just aren't managing that.

The good news, though, is that even if the phone has some water damage, AT&T and Samsung are willing to offer a one-time replacement of the phones for another Galaxy S 4 Active. It's definitely a show of good faith, but I think it would be better if they let customers switch to a different phone instead of a replacement phone that may or may not actually be waterproof. There's no word on when these exchanges are going to start happening, but hopefully this entire situation doesn't turn into a PR fiasco for Samsung.

  1. It’s water resistant.

Plus, there was an article indicating that If you don’t snap in the battery cover properly, there’s going to be water. Some people might not read the instructions properly.
