Samsung Galaxy Nexus Users Affected by Reboot Bug

by Jack Holt
tagged , , , , , ,

The new Samsung Galaxy Nexus is an extremely amazing phone. I love mine so much my sweetie fears that I will run off with it. It’s the first device to run Android 4.0 and the first “Google Experience” device on Verizon’s network. However being that it’s a brand new device with a brand new OS it’s sure to have its own set of bugs and problems.

As it is, numerous users are reporting that there is a bug that causes their devices to randomly reboot. Most that are reporting the bug are those with the GSM model, however, Verizon’s CDMA model isn’t free of it. There isn’t a pinpoint cause for the bug as it can happen while streaming music, playing games or even when the device is idle. Users are finding that the frequency of the issue happens more and more as time progresses but Google has indicated that they are aware of the problem and are investigating the issue. Are you guys having these issues?

i have mine (gsm version) for almost 2 months and so far runs perfect :-)

Got my Verizon/CDMA Galaxy Nexus at launch.  It’s probably sporadically rebooted a 8-10 times since… no particular cause I can determine.  Phone’s not rooted or unlocked, it’s all completely stock.

Having the reboot issue also. Verizon galaxy nexus here. Around 5 times…..also having some serious bluetooth issues with my truck stereo.

Unlocked and Rooted but otherwise running stock ROM, never had a random reboot. Got mine on launch morning.

For those of you experiencing this issue, I have read that the apps Light Flow and GO SMS have caused problems. Some users with reboot issues that also had one, or both of these apps, started seing improvements once uninstalled. You may want to give that a try if you are using either app.

I haven’t had this issue and I am also using Light Flow. I did unlock and root the day I got it and flashed on different Roms and kernels but have never had a random reboot.

My rooted HTC EVO 4G has been doing the same for months. It happens only when I’m driving with the GPS on…I guess the vibrations of driving are the cause because if I ask somebody to hold it, as oppose to leave it in the cup holder, it doesn’t happen. Sooooo annoying…

I had my phone since Dec. 16, and it does occasionally reboot. I don’t have either of the programs some of you mention; I did not root my phone.  It’s been happening about once a week, and when either idle or in the middle of a task (listening to an audiobook, web browsing), so no pattern.

Unlocked and Rooted CDMA GN running stock 4.0.2 random shutdown or reboots happening more and more often.  Have noticed most while using headphone jack (listening to Google Listen and Pandora over headphones, and using Pandora and Music via line out to car stereo).

I have had 4 of these phones and none of them had reboot problems.
2 of my friend have them and they dont have reboot problems.
I don’t there is a reboot problem but there are a lot of other problems !!!!
I came from T-Mobile for this phone and all I can say is T-Mobile is by far superior when it comes to service.
With verizon I’ve had 3 complete outages in service and 5 data outages and this is all within a month. I get dropped calls all the time and in most areas where I live I get no service at all.
My friend that has the galaxy nexus on t mobile and he doesn’t have these issues and when I was with t mobile the last outage I had was 4 years ago and that was for about 2 hours not ia entire day !!!!
So now I’m paying twice the money to get 1/4 the service I was getting with t-mobile

Does anyone have problems with their contacts force closing while you trying to link contacts together?

  • Rubenalifuenmayor

I bought the phone on release date and i have noticed the bug twice. They occured within the same week and never again. Wierd…

  • Stefan Skotte

I never seen the bug – when does it occur (typically?)

  • Mike

I bought the GSM model via amazon (germany) and received in mid december. the phone rebooted at least once a day, sometimes even getting stuck in a reboot loop which forced me to take out the battery.
i will now send the phone back to amazon as the phone is not usable in this state (still on ics 4.0.1, no ota update available till now)

i had this happen to me once(been a week since i got the device). i was listening to music and it rebooted. was using google music app.

  • Marshall G

I’ve had it happen a handful of times in the month I’ve owned it.  It’s usually when listening to iHeartRadio.  The T-Mobile fanatic is completely biased as it’s a known fact statistically that they are not in the top tier of mobile providers.  Regardless, the question wasn’t to ask which provider you think is the best.

I don’t understand why anyone thinks this is only happening to Galaxy Nexus devices.  This happens on many Android devices.  A simple Google search will point you to that.  I personally do not have a Galaxy Nexus, but have been inflicted with such woes on my Android device.  I have tried many remedies that I have come across (most are disabling a service or app that I use) but none have resolved the issue.

      happens on iPhones too

  • Bill

I have a stock GNex on Verizon and I have had it happen several times. Each time its when starting the camera from the lock screen. Currently at ICS 4.0.2.

Mine goes into a bootloop as of late (every few days), where it just shows the Google logo over and over again.  Only way to get out of it is to go into recovery mode and do a factory reset.  Ugh!  Hating Android right now (iPhone 4S is looking better every day!!).

I have a stock Verizon Galaxy Nexus.  This happened to me yesterday while I was driving and streaming music using Amazon’s Cloud Player (line in to my car stereo).

  • Will Osborn

I’ve had my SIM free Nexus since it was released. It has randomly rebooted a couple of times until yesterday. It restarted 5 times yesterday, and now restarts itself every 5-10 seconds. Pretty much making it useless.

  • Vekios

This happens to me multiple times a day. I was thinking about taking the phone back.

  • Johhnyboy7766

Yes just started a few days ago

  • Max_power69

  • Mihain

Yes, i m at the second galaxy nexus, and both shutdown often while listening music. Just got the second one (first was stolen) and has shut down while using g music and choosing eq presets. After reboot started again listening to music then went to eq , chosen several presets and it shut down again. Both phones run 4.0.2 stock.

  • Frohnan

My phone reboots all the time.  Even at night while just charging I am awakened by the bright light of the reboot sequence.

  • Fotto

rebooting several times a day noticed this quite a lot over the past week or so.

  • Tom Bouve

I thought it was a pandora problem but it happened today on my sirius

  • Trjcraig23

My phone had rebooted when i have the gps going which has resulted in me getting very lost. I took it to the Verizon store they did something and it seemed to help for a little while but it has started to random reboot again.

  • http://twitter.com/cheri_bomb cheridan

Mine reboots randomly, when it’s idle. I’ve never had it reboot on me when I’m actively using it. Aside from this, it’s an awesome phone
