In what I can only describe as one of the absolute best PR moves I’ve ever seen, Samsung UK, via their official Twitter account, has been scouring the Twitterverse for people complaining about having problems with their iPhone 4. Their solution? A free Galaxy S phone.
One new owner of a free Galaxy S was having problems with her iPhone 4 after about a month, and tells her story:
“So I did what anyone else would do: I vented my frustration on Twitter. Imagine my surprise, then, when this morning I am tweeted by Samsung offering me a free Galaxy S, their latest phone. Too good to be true? I decided to investigate.
I called a friend at Samsung, and though she was initially sceptical, it has now been confirmed: the campaign is legit. Samsung is so confident about the superiority of the Galaxy S that they’re sending free ones to existing iPhone customers so they can decide for themselves.”
Many manufacturers have been firing back at Apple, especially after Jobs tried to drag them into the “Antennagate” scandal. This move, however, is absolutely brilliant. Samsung is likely to make more than a few customers for life with such great PR, and of course, I am thrilled to see Android making its way into new hands.
Kudos, Samsung UK. Well played. Feel free to send one my way next.
