Boot your Motorola Droid X into recovery mode

While there is some speculation out there that tampering with your Droid X may make it explode into pieces (not quite literally), it’s always good to know how to get it into recovery mode. There hasn’t been any hacking and dev’ing for the Droid X yet, but that’s not to say there won’t be… and that’s when you’ll want to know.

The instructions are relatively simple:

1. Turn your phone off.
2. Hold down “Home” and press the “Power” button there at the top. Hold them until the Motorola logo appears
3. Release the “Power” button, but continue to hold the “Home” button until you see an exclamation mark (!)
4. Release the “Home” button and press the “Search” key once (and only once!)

And that’s it! You’ll find yourself sitting pretty in the Droid X’s recovery mode. So, go show it off to anyone who might appreciate it (and even those who won’t), but be careful there, son!

This doent work on my phone either. It goes to the exclamation point, and no further. It works fine once I remove the battery (bootwise) but will not go fully into recovery. And ROM manager will not work for some reason? I have Cyanogen 7.1 on the card, and would like to boot to it.

wait a minute then push both volume buttons at the same time

For those having problems with the search button, try pressing both up and down volume keys at the same time instead.

  • so frustrated

ok so im at were it has reboot system now highlighted but how do I select it?

    • Guest

      power button

  • not sure

When I do this I just get the red motorola logo flashing at me every 5 secs. This happens even after I let go of the Home key. I can get into the Bootloader 30.04 screen and it recognizes when I plug in a USB cable. If I try to boot regular the motorola logo comes up and that is as far as it gets. Any ideas…
