Don’t Like Your Current Home Screen Launcher? Replace It! A Near Exhaustive List Of Launchers

Without a doubt, one of the greatest aspects of the Android operating system is its openness and versatility.  Regardless of whether you root your device or not, you can make some pretty hefty modifications if you’re not happy with the current or default settings.  One of the biggest applications often replaced on any given device is its home screen or launcher.  More often than not, someone might purchase a Sense UI device or a device with TouchWiz and feel slightly disappointed with its functionality or lack thereof.  Well, we’ve got good news for you.  There are a plethora of home screen replacement apps for you to choose from which offer tons of added functionality, from adding more than 7 home screens if required to the ability to modify icon sizes and layouts.  The possibilities are endless.  We’ve taken the time to list a few of these home screen replacement apps for you to try out.  Hit the break and give them a go until you find the one that’s perfect for you.  And as always, feel free to leave your thoughts in the comment section below.  Which one do you prefer?  The Talk Android apps database also includes a QR Code for your convenience.  We know we haven’t listed them all, but this should be enough to get you started :)

About the Author: Joe Sirianni

Joe was born in New Jersey and spent most of his childhood moving around from state to state. He eventually made his way to Pennsylvania where he met his Portuguese beauty and made her his wife. He now has three great kids and full access to all of the Portuguese food he can eat. Joe's love for mobile technology began when he bought his first Palm Pilot, a Palm M130 and left it on top of his car, driving off, causing it to smash into a thousand pieces. Forced to buy a new device, he quickly discovered that specs were changing so rapidly he was buying a new device every six months just to keep up. Since then, he has constantly felt the need to have the latest and greatest. When the "smartphone" revolution began and integrating cell phones and PDA's was the norm, he quickly jumped to Windows Mobile for several years until the first Android device was launched, the T-Mobile G1. Joe began appreciating all of the free utilities Google provided and sold his soul (his precious data) to Google long before they got into the mobile OS business. So, there was no hesitation at all for him to jump on board and ride the Android train as an early adopter. And boy has it been a blast. Joe now works in the Engineering & Operations dept for a major mobile carrier where he remotely troubleshoots cell sites and loves being an Editor for TalkAndroid.

You forgot to add Zeam Launcher, Regina, Launcher 7, and Claystone launcher

  • Matt

What? No Zeam? You’ve even done posts on it in the past.

Fellas – “We know we haven’t listed them all, but this should be enough to get you started :)”

I could have been here all day writing about home screen replacement apps and launchers :)

  • Joe Sirianni

    18 launchers wasn’t enough??? :)

  • Chris

Oh FFS, as if i don’t spend enough time tweaking and fiddling with launchers on my phone. This is gonna take me all weekend to figure out which on i like best.

  • Jack

18 Launchers is never enough :P

  • http://claystoneinc.com Chris L

Thanks Larry for mentioning Claystone (http://claystoneinc.com). No list is complete without it, after all it’s doing stuff none of the others are.

I used to use Go Launcher, but since updating to gingerbread, Go Launcher drains the battery like mad. So I switched to Zeam. It’s a shame you didn’t mention it.

Zeam is the best! Very lightweight and functional. Also I like the way it handles the bottom row. Fast, solid, pretty. All the features I want. It doesn’t have random funky screen transitions, but that’s more a gimmick than anything else anyway.

That’s a nice long list. I like to use ADW.Launcher EX and Sweeter Home

  • Joseph Genther

Anyone know of or want to start a more complete list?

  • Hubcap66

I am findind that launchers i have tried like everythingMe, Solo, and nova that they are battery drainers. Does anyobe know of a launcher that is not a battery drainer?
