In terms of legal confusion, emulators definitely take the cake. While emulators themselves are legal, the ROMs you play on them aren’t unless you have legal copy of the game. To add to this confusion, various companies have just as shadowy stances on whether or not they’ll allow these legal demons in their stores.
As of now, Google has removed Yongzh’s famous “oid” emulators from the market (gameboid, snesoid, etc). No one has given a reason why; both Yongzh and Google as of now are silent. But not stopping at just that, Yongzh has had his entire developer account removed from Google. Was there foul play? Until someone comes up with some inside information, we’ll never know.
That’s the bad news. The good news for those of you who love Emulators, is that he’s now offering them all for free over at a third party market, SlideME. So while we have to wonder what’s going on, apps this good dropping from $5.99 to $0.00 can’t be passed up.
