Five major U.S. carriers have already revealed that, yes, they will be selling the new LG G6 within the next few months. While none provided a release date, they all appear to agree that the phone will be offered to customers beginning this spring. It follows the same distribution order as last year where South Korea, LG’s home country, gets the flagship before other markets.
Hit the break for details.
The nation’s biggest carrier was among the first to say the G6 is going to be live on its network. A blog post written by a Verizon employee went over a bunch of the phone’s features. What wasn’t including? A price and a release date. Big Red also used the blog post as an opportunity to plug its unlimited plan that came back from the dead a few weeks ago.
“Coming this spring, Verizon will carry LG’s flagship G6 smartphone, unveiled today at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.”
Verizon, however, did confirm it will be offering the Astro Black and Ice Platinum color options to customers this spring.
AT&T, like Verizon, didn’t go anywhere near sharing specifics. What we did find out is that the 5.7-inch Quad HD+ FullVision display is paired perfectly with DirecTV Now, AT&T’s live television streaming service.
“If you’re interested in learning more about the LG G6 you can visit our website or one of our 5,000+ stores.”
The carrier also highlighted that its G6 will be compatible with HD voice, WiFi calling, advanced messaging, and video calling on its network. These are in-house features from AT&T; therefore, you won’t be able to take an unlocked G6 and enjoy those benefits. You’ll need to buy your G6 through AT&T instead.
T-Mobile is usually very open with its plans, and today the magenta-colored network shed light on the G6’s arrival. Despite not going any further than a spring release date, T-Mobile posted an unboxing video from Barcelona where the phone debuted.
“The Un-carrier today announced LG’s new flagship superphone – just unveiled at Mobile World Congress – is headed to T-Mobile this spring. Yeah. That’d be the new LG G6.”
At the end of its announcement, T-Mobile said to be on the lookout for special deals. Maybe the Un-carrier plans on doing a massive accessories bundle for pre-orders or BOGO offer on the phone.
At Sprint, the G6 didn’t even get a post on the carrier’s site. A simple tweet was deemed acceptable.
“The amazing new LG G6 is the first HPU-capable device and it’s coming to Sprint! More details soon.”
Notice that Sprint hasn’t even said that the G6 will be available on its network this spring. Strange, yes. But it’s not enough to worry. Our assumption is CEO Marcelo Claure will push to have the phone ready for selling at the same time as its competitors.
The smallest carrier we still consider to be major is US Cellular, which confirmed to multiple publications that it, too, will offer the G6 to customers. There just aren’t any details beyond that.
When each of the carriers announce specific release dates and pricing, Talk Android will let you know right away. Keep in mind spring begins on March 20; therefore, the G6 won’t be available in the United States before then.
