It seems like BlackBerry has a new QWERTY Android-based phone just over the horizon. Leaked photos were posted on Chinese social networking site Weibo, giving us a detailed first look at what is the alleged phone.
There’s really not a whole lot to go off of here. Specifications still remain a secret, but if the images are legit, it appears that the QWERTY keyboard isn’t retractable like it is on the Priv. This would give users a pure physical keyboard experience, which is a nice touch for those that still love the BlackBerry brand.
We have heard official confirmation that BlackBerry was creating a phone with a physical keyboard, but we have yet to see any hefty rumors. If the images are legit, this would be our first look at what that phone might be.
It’s also worth noting that BlackBerry isn’t manufacturing smartphones anymore, just designing them. That in mind, just like the DTEK50 and DTEK60, it carriers the BlackBerry brand and experience, but it’s not necessarily built by BlackBerry.
Back in July, rumors began floating around that BlackBerry was readying three new smartphones. Two have already launched, leaving only one left off of that list. On that list, it’s codenamed as Mercury and the company is aiming for a Q1 2017 launch. Even in July, it was said that the phone would have a QWERTY keyboard. Not only that, but that leak said it’ll have a 4.5-inch Full HD display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, a Snapdragon 625 processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, an 18MP rear camera, an 8MP front camera, and a 3,400mAh battery.
Of course, that’s by no means the official specs, and having been a leak talking about devices so far into the future, a lot of that is obviously subject to change. It does give us a picture of what to expect nonetheless, though.
