Well, well, well… looks like Cyber Monday has hit, and with it comes some great deals. But what’s a better deal than “free”? Not a whole lot, and the guys over at iTag want to give you some good stuff for a zero-cost price tag. According to an email we received from the iTag team:

Well its all very exciting… Leaves are changing, a chill is in the air, football is peaking and basketball is back in action… All signs point to the arrival of the Holidays. And, as you can imagine, iTag wants to throw magic, holiday dust around, too!

We know you will be busy with friends and family during the Thanksgiving weekend. But, forget Black Friday! On CYBER MONDAY, November 29th, iTag will be giving FREE Premium Membership FOR LIFE to every single (naughty or nice) person that downloads iTag to their phone and registers for an iTag account. Mark this on your calendar and make sure to download iTag on Monday, November 29th. It is absolutely, no-strings-attached, FREE! So, why not? Tell your friends and family about this iTag thanksgiving promotion, too. You know how they say its better to give than receive? Well, we believe you should all receive.

We’re super geeked out about being your, your friends’ and your family’s phone guardians. Especially for FREE.

Happy Cyber Monday!

You may already be familiar with iTag. The app runs in the background and allows you to locate your device via GPS at any time for free users, but on a premium account, you can also backup and restore your contacts over the air, remotely lock or wipe your device, and get alerts if the SIM in your GSM phone is replaced. The service is very easy, safe and convenient, and this is a free lifetime membership, so you’ll be able to use these premium perks forever! Be sure to hit the break to see a video of iTag in action, and check out the app here. Don’t forget, you’ll have to register an account at itag.com.

EDIT: We have recognized that there seems to be an issue with getting the premium membership. We have contacted iTag and are awaiting reply. Keep it here for more info.

Not available in the UK btw, might be US only

  • Tony

This is shady as hell. It’s telling me I have to get 3 other people to install it before I get my free membership. I don’t even know 3 people with Android phones. It would’ve been nice for them to say that up front. Uninstalling.

  • Aidan

Doesn’t appear to work for UK phones

  • Dustin

Just signed up from the US…no premium features showing for me unless I pay.

  • Bryan Sequeira

Its is definitely not a no strings attached. You need to get 3 of your friends to join to receive the lifetime membership…

  • John

So how do you get the free premium upgrade?

  • What

No strings attached?!?? You have to invite three friends! Bunch of liars, I would’nt trust them with my data.

  • Avery

What happened to no strings attached? I have to get 3 friends to install? I don’t even think I like how shady this app is, why would I want to push it on 3 of my friends? I read all the market reviews and this app seemed shady just from those reviews. But I thought, “No strings attached, maybe they are trying to correct their shady ways.” Guess not. They are just trying to get their app on more phone by any shady means possible. Thanks for nothing.

    Fail!

  • High Hopes

Everyone boo this company. Issues getting premium my overused seat cushion. Obviously a hoax, unless a company is really that uneducated and unprepared.

    Lame!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • orangearrows

So how do you get the premium features? Says 3 friends need to be invited. @Talkandroid – @itag Getting publicity falsifying stuff?

  • orangearrows

Was hoping the editor would have checked his sources.

Same here, no strings !!! You have to snag 3 Android users, presumably they have to purchase the package before you get yours free. That’s pretty lame, making your ‘friends’ pay for your freebie. The editor should have confirmed before publishing this apparent scam.

I went ahead and signed up on the assumption that the company will make good on their promise of “no strings” premium accounts but if they don’t I’ll be deleting my account.

  • Tom

They made good on their promise. My account was made premium. I am pretty upset it took until this morning though, because I had planned on doing it for my wife as well.

  • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

FYY as of this morning my account shows as a premium account, so it looks like they came through.

  • orangearrows

It shows me as a PREMIUM MEMBER on the website too.

But my phone still shows does not show the PREMIUM features.

Also under where it says PREMIUM MEMBER
    it says commands left #3

After I used ” INSTANT LOCATE” to try and locate my phone ( which it failed to ) – the commands left were #2

Do we get only 3 commands for being a PREMIUM MEMBER?

  • Dana

I installed and registered last night before midnight (EST), but am not listed as a premium member. If no change by tonight, this program is coming off my phone.

  • Raquel

My account shows as premium also, but as soon as you use 3 premium features, you are directed to an upgrade page. What a SCAM.

  • Tom

So much for free lifetime memberships!

  • Removed

Removed the account from our phones and deleted our accounts. Any company willing to lie/scam in order to get users is worthless.

  • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

Hrm your “commands” seem to reset (or at least replenish) on a daily basis. Yesterday I attempted to use the “instant locate” feature and it reduced my “commands” count to 2, but now it’s back up to 3.

I will say this about iTag, their service is not very polished and their documentation/help section is pretty useless. I’d be very dissatisfied if I had actually paid money for the service but since it was free I guess I can’t complain too much.

  • Dana

Premium status was never applied to my account. I couldn’t even cancel the account at their website. Every time I try, it takes me to an invalid web page. At least I know not to do business with them in the future, and to steer all my friends away.

  • orangearrows

@Dustin Karnes Did you hear back from the iTag? What’s the deal?

  • orangearrows

Also noticed that sinceI have installed iTag – my battery drains out much faster. iTag keeps using my CPU % pretty regulalry (noticed using OSMonitor App). UNinstalling it – not worth keeping it- Premium or NO Premium.

  • http://robert.aitchison.org Robert Aitchison

I’ve noticed the same thing and that’s not really surprising, for an app like that to be effective it needs to periodically get a GPS fix and update the central server. The problem is that if you are indoors it can be difficult or even impossible to get a GPS fix so the app wastes battery trying to get one.

It doesn’t seem to use cell triangulation which would provide an approximate location even indoors with very little battery usage.
