With Google Glass only being officially available in the U.K. for about a week, it has not taken long for acceptance to follow a path seen in the U.S. The latest example is the Cinema Exhibitors' Association which issued this statement via their chief executive Phil Clapp, “customers will be requested not to wear these into cinema auditoriums, whether the film is playing or not.” Apparently the U.K. group wanted to one-up their counterparts at the Alamo Drafthouse which only asks Glass users to remove them when the trailers start.
The ban on any use at all is not all-encompassing though as the U.K.'s Vue theaters indicate they will only be asking users to remove Glass when the lights dim. One would assume that is consistent with a policy asking users to put their smartphones up when the lights dim.
Google's response to this latest move is the same as previous statements. They believe businesses should treat Glass in the same manner that other mobile devices are treated. They also think businesses should learn more about Glass, including some “direct and first-hand experience” before implementing any policies.
