Trial of Abyss is an endgame event that can only be unlocked upon clearing late-game content in AFK Journey. It allows you to farm several valuable items—most notably tons of Forging Stone V that lets you max out your heroes' equipment.
Scroll down and read more to learn what the Trial of Abyss is all about, how to unlock it, what rewards you can get from it, and the best heroes you should consider using in this event!
Trial of Abyss Overview

Trial of Abyss is classified as an event and thus can be found on the Event page, but it's an entirely new game mode that you can only access in the game's later stages.
This event lasts indefinitely and provides you with lots of precious growth items that are meant to be used by late-game players to further enhance hero skills and their equipment.

One of the most notable benefits of unlocking and playing Trial of Abyss in AFK Journey is that it gives you tons of Forging Stones V, which is a key material to upgrading your heroes' equipment pieces to the current max level (Level 240)—as you can see from the image above.

Equipping your heroes with max-level gear is one of the most important things you can do if you want to stay competitive in the Arena and PVE game modes such as Dream Realm and Battle Drills.
Don't forget to farm Abyss Trial floors extensively until you've gotten enough Forging Stones V for equipment upgrades, at the very least!
TIP: Once you start getting Forging Stones V, remember to prioritize upgrading your DPS units' equipment to max-level first. Generally, this means maxing out Rangers' and Rogues' equipment as your priority, as most of the top-tier DPS heroes in AFK Journey belong to these classes. After you're done with that, prioritize your Tanks' equipment next, specifically the ones that give them stat bonuses on HP, DEF, and Ranged DEF. Doing this will help you push Trial of Abyss floors faster.
What is Trial of Abyss?

The Trial of Abyss is much like the Legend Trial battle mode, as it is divided into floors populated by enemies that you must beat to proceed further. The higher you climb, the harder the battles get, but the more rewards you'll be able to collect cumulatively.
Players also get a rank depending on how many floors they've cleared compared to other players in their server but are not given rewards based on their rankings.
Instead. rewards are given to all players on the server once the following floors have been cleared for the first time by any player:
- Floor 330
- Floor 370
- Floor 410
- Floor 450
How to Unlock Trial of Abyss

To unlock the Trial of Abyss event, you and your server must fulfill the following requirements:
| Requirement Types (Trial of Abyss) | Requirements |
|---|---|
| Player Requirements | • Clear AFK Stage 1125 • Clear “The Last Leg” quest in Main Story Chapter 4 (Reawakened Power) |

Upon visiting the Sun Temple, which you unlock by clearing the later parts of Chapter 4, simply go near the Trial of Abyss tower displayed in the image above, then click the interact button.
Trial of Abyss Rewards

Aside from the first-clear server rewards, which are often hero-summoning items like Invite Letters, you can get the following items by clearing Trial of Abyss floors.
- Hero Essences
- Forging Stones V
- Stellar Crystals
- Invite Letters
- Tidal Essences
- Temporal Essences
- Twilight Essences
Generally, you get 50 Forging Stones V per floor, 100 Hero Essences per floor except every 5th floor, and the rarer items like Invite Letters and the Tidal/Temporal/Twilight Essences for every five floors you clear.
NOTE: You'll stop getting Forging Stones V after clearing Trial of Abyss Floor 25, so use them wisely!
Best Heroes for Trial of Abyss

In the Trial of Abyss, we recommend using a hero composition of 2 DPS heroes, 2 Tank heroes (one for tanking in the frontline and one as backup or Rogue bait), and 1 Support hero, as shown above.
Of course, this isn't a one-size-fits-all solution, so make sure to experiment with your hero compositions the higher you go up in the Trial of Abyss!
To help you decide which heroes to use, we've taken the liberty to list out the best heroes in each role for clearing Trial of Abyss floors below.
TIP: The best artifacts or spells to use in the Trial of Abyss are either the Confining Spell or the Starshard Spell. You may also consider using the Awakening Spell or the Ironwall Spell if you need more survivability instead of pure damage or backline control effects.
Best Tank Heroes for Trial of Abyss

![]() Lucius | Lightbearer | ||||||||
![]() Temesia | Lightbearer | ||||||||
![]() Antandra | Mauler |
Your go-to choice for your main tank should always be Thoran, as he's by far the best tank in the game when it comes to pure survivability. He's fantastic both as a frontline tank and as Rogue bait for enemy heroes like Vala and Silvina when you place him in your backline.
Consider using the others as your secondary tanks, especially in Trial of Abyss stages with walls that divide your team into two separate groups.
Best DPS Heroes for Trial of Abyss

AoE damage dealers like Cecia and Carolina generally do well in Trial of Abyss, since you'll be facing multiple enemy heroes there.
By the time you unlock the Trial of Abyss, you'll most likely have Supreme+ heroes in your roster already. Make sure you invest in at least two Supreme+ DPS heroes so you'll be doing enough damage to the enemies there.
Also, consider using these alternative top-tier DPS heroes for your Trial of Abyss runs:
- Marilee
- Arden
- Florabelle
- Korin
- Lyca
- Viperian
- Shakir
- Igor
- Bryon
- Dionel
TIP: When picking DPS units to carry your team, always take into account Faction advantages and synergies. You'll be fighting heroes in the Trial of Abyss after all, so make sure to exploit their weaknesses!
Best Support Heroes for Trial of Abyss

![]() Damian | Wilder | ||||||||
![]() Eironn | Wilder | ||||||||
![]() Koko | Mauler | ||||||||
![]() Hewynn | Wilder |
The Support heroes listed above (except Eironn) specialize in sustaining your team. Eironn, in particular, can be considered a DPS-Support hybrid. Though he doesn't deal as much damage as other top-tier DPS units, his Ultimate allows him to support his allies by setting up enemies for AoE attacks.
Eironn excels in the Trial of Abyss when you get his EX Weapon (unlocks Howling Hurricane) to +5 and if you pair him up with AoE damage dealers like Carolina and Arden.
Consider using Reinier as an alternative support as well, especially if you need to disrupt strong enemy backlines and neutralize high-priority enemy DPS heroes.
