The Waitlist Is Gone: Anyone Can Download And Use Beeper Now

Beeper is a universal chat app that puts most popular messaging platforms under a single convenient app, and it has finally shed its annoying waitlist system.

I use Instagram, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Slack, Discord, and X to stay in touch with people. That's a lot of apps to have for messaging people (even though that's not the primary focus of all of them) and it'd be nice if I could have them all under one roof. Wait, that's what Beeper is for.

Beeper is an all-in-one messaging app that lets you access several messaging apps through a single application, instead of jumping between them. It used to involve sitting on a waitlist or getting an invite from someone who was already in, but thanks to a recent acquisition, the app is now available for everyone.

No One Likes Waitlists And Invite Systems; Beeper Is Finally Openly Available

Beeper calls itself a “universal chat app” and it's hard to say that description isn't right on the mark. That's exactly what I'd call Beeper, as it lets you access 14 popular messaging platforms including WhatsApp, Telegram, Messenger, Instagram, X, and so on, from one app, instead of needing to jump around to access them separately.

It was launched in 2021, and to use Beeper, you used to have to add your name to a waitlist and simply be patient. If you had a friend who was already in, you could get an invite to help skip the line, but besides that, it was a very annoying system (no one likes waitlists: remember when OnePlus used to use those?). Beeper says there were 466,000 people on their waitlist.

Yes, that's in the past tense, because thankfully, that will be a thing of the past after an acquisition. From right now, Beeper is now openly available for download on the Google Play Store. It's also available for PC platforms as well as iOS.

By the way, of the 14 platforms Beeper supports, iMessage isn't one of them. Beeper attempted to bring iMessage to Android devices in the past through the Beeper Mini app (which actually worked), but their attempts were struck down more than once. While I wouldn't advise holding your breath for it to make a return, with the recent hot water Apple has found itself in with the Department of Justice, things may change.

Beeper Was Acquired By Automattic

This change in our luck as prospective Beeper users were brought to us thanks to an acquisition of the app by Automattic. You might not have heard of that parent company, but you've certainly heard of WordPress, and yeah, that's an Automattic product, so it sounds like Beeper is in pretty good hands as far as software products can go.

We shouldn't expect to see any drastic changes to the application's functionality or structure as the whole team will remain intact and will still operate independently, so that's good news. Automattic also acquired Texts.com which has the same value proposition as Beeper — an all-in-one chat app. Both products and their teams will merge, to hopefully build an even more solid final product. It's exciting to see where things will go.
