Yes, they do, but under a different name. Actually, up until just a few years ago, Lenovo was still very active in releasing new smartphone models under its own brand, even if most of those were China-exclusive. Nowadays, though, its mobile operations have shifted its full focus onto its well-known subsidiary: none other than Motorola.

Pre-Motorola Days

Before acquiring Motorola Mobility in 2014, Lenovo entered the mobile industry with its first smartphone, the Lenovo LePhone, in 2010. Initially focusing on the Chinese market, Lenovo gradually expanded its smartphone offerings internationally to compete with major players like Samsung and Apple.

Keep in mind, that this was already three years after the release of the very first iPhone in 2007. Lenovo’s early smartphones went for quality balance, and gained recognition for their affordability. These initial ventures laid the foundation for Lenovo's eventual expansion towards more advanced products like the Lenovo A series phones, with its eventual acquisition of Motorola in 2014.

A Two-Way Approach

Lenovo initially found success with its dual-brand strategy, operating both the Lenovo and Motorola smartphone brands concurrently between its international and Asia-exclusive markets. This approach allowed the company to target different market segments and geographical regions effectively, maximizing its reach and market share.

In fact, up until 2022, Lenovo was still releasing phone models such as the Lenovo K14 Plus and the Lenovo Legion Y70, showing that the brand is as strong as ever. Unfortunately, this all changed by early 2023, with the announcement that its Legion gaming phone division will be discontinued. After that, no classic Lenovo product line phones were ever revealed or announced since.

Lenovo's tablet division (using the same product lines) still remains active to this day, at least.

Modern Motorola Ventures

On the Motorola Mobility side, business continues as usual. Aside from the usual smartphone offerings at different product tiers like the Moto and Edge series, we already know the revolutionary likes of the new Razr foldable. Interestingly, Lenovo released the ThinkPhone sometime during mid-2023, in a somewhat strange fashion that still emphasized the company’s identity within the mobile industry (while still keeping its Motorola branding).

Priced at $699, the ThinkPhone targeted businesses with its emphasis on security, reliability, and enterprise integration. This strategic move represented Motorola’s ambition under Lenovo to carve out a niche in the lucrative enterprise market, challenging established players with its feature-rich offering.

Recent Developments

Additionally, Lenovo's collaboration with Baidu in February marked a significant milestone within its established niches. By integrating Baidu's generative artificial intelligence (AI) technology into its smartphones, Lenovo aimed to enhance user experiences with advanced AI-powered features such as chatbots and real-time translation.

Even earlier last January, leaked information suggested that the company might be preparing to unveil the latest iteration of the Motorola Razr+. The leaked render and details hinted at potential upgrades and a new color option for the device. But as you might have guessed already, Lenovo is not yet ready to acknowledge all of these details right now, leaving room for speculation about its features and release.
