Every year Samsung picks a slightly earlier date on which to launch its foldable devices and 2023 is no different with the brand announcing that July 27 will be the big day. And, for the first time, the Galaxy Unpacked event will be held in Seoul, South Korea.
The venue is COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam, and it will see the new Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Z Fold 5 being unveiled. This is the first time that Samsung is holding a global Unpacked launch event in its home country having previously held them in Barcelona, Berlin, London, New York, and other western cities previously.
“The foldable category embodies Samsung’s philosophy of delivering breakthrough innovation that pushes boundaries to reshape the future of mobile experiences. Hosting Unpacked in Seoul holds great significance both as it is a city that has become an emerging epicenter of innovation and culture as well as the foldable category.”
When it comes to foldables, 2023 is a world away from when Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Z Flip 4 to a market with few real competitors. This time around, we've got the likes of the Pixel Fold and the Motorola Razr+ along with offerings from Oppo, Vivo, and Honor in Europe. Here's hoping that Samsung has adjusted its sights accordingly with the launch of its new Galaxy Z foldables next month. In the meantime, we can expect the frequency and accuracy of leaks to ramp up exponentially in the lead up to the Galaxy Unpacked event.
